Our current starting center would probably be the worst starter among all West contenders

Other options:
- 5th starter in Denver (likely Christian Braun)
- Trayce Jackson-Davis (matters less because they'll close with Draymond)
- Keon Ellis (matters less because they'll close with Monk)
I don't see any way this can be the group you start the season with. I still have to think there's another move coming. This roster is currently horribly imbalanced.
With Allen off the table for 6 months, options are getting a bit thin. Kessler and Wendell Carter Jr are the most favorable of the realistic ones. Time to get it done.

All of those guys are significantly better than Theis.

It’s the worst in the league actually. That being said center is the one position I would want a weak spot and I have hope for Karli/Messi/Thies. Also a DM Herb BI TM Zion lineup MIGHT happen. If BI can add just a corner 3 to his game, you have him and Herb on the corners and Zion in the paint. Run a PNR with DM and TM and depending on the defense you either drive pass to a wide open TM or not double teamed Zion.

Not sure they're currently better, but they are at least young so you can hope they become clearly better than Theis
Starting Theis is not something a serious team does. Can't be the plan

Y'all sleeping on Karlo.

Still have a hard time getting worked up about this.
What will a center do on this team? First, they won't play that much. Our small-ball line up will soak up at least 20-25 minutes a game, including closing games. Second, they won't be the focus of the offense. Their job will be to defend, board, set screens and protect the paint while scoring here and there.
In that role, are any of the guys we've got really that different from, say, a Zubac or a Kevin Looney or a Nurkic?
If you have a chance to get a quality starter, OK, do it. But I'm fine going cheap and putting the money elsewhere. We've got three young centers, plus Theis plus JRE who could easily slip into the Larry Nance role this year. This group needs to defend, support the stars, do the dirty work and stay the hell out of the way...

That's a top 5? 7? closing lineup in the NBA?

Ya, if rebounding or defense doesn’t matter.

We don't close with JV so your argument moot.
We have 6 noncenters who need to get 30 minutes of playing time a night. I. sure Willie will figure it out. We've always been a top rebounding and top defensive team. I don't think the drop is going to be drastic enough to have this world is ending mentality.

I think we'll play alot of close games that we lose in the last 6 minutes when the opponents starts attacking BI and CJ ..
With absolutely zero rim protection we will give up a ton of clutch points and o-rebs in the paint

It's no different than when we lost games the exact same way with a hobbled Nance closing games for 2/3 of the season.
I just don't see why it would be much worse than it was before. I think having a closer like Murray balances it out. Yea, it'll be problematic in the playoffs but it's not like JV and Nance were any good I. The postseason.

If we consistently close with Z at center then I guess it does matter less, you're right. I'm not convinced that will be the case. So far we've mostly seen it when we're playing from a deficit and we're clearly selling out for offense.

Karlo’s gonna finish the season as first team all nba. It’s gonna be quite simple and easy, honestly.

This year's roster is considerably better, and Theis is a much better fit for the team than JV or Larry were, but I'm done arguing with folks about it.
People here want to be miserable Chicken-Littles, so that's fine.

Run Theis and either Missi/Karlo (whoever proves themself) each about 15-20ish minutes a game. Those numbers go up or down depending on matchup. Obviously against a team like Wolves, we’re gonna have to run our centers a little more. Im worried we’ll get exposed on the boards/inside with Zion at center. Even BI and Trey at the 4 in small ball is someone undersized against big/strong opposing 4s.

You absolutely can't close with BI.
Probably the least clutch player I've ever seen.

Or we'll murder them by playing their bigs off the court like teams did to us last year.

So you think we can play 3 time MVP Nikola Jokic off the floor?

No, but we can definitely pull him out of the paint and switch him onto guys to get mismatched.
We will absolutely abuse bigs in the pnr
