I've never owned any 380 acp handgun, but S&W has got my attention!

I've held the Ruger LCP Max, and I've held the original BG. I honestly wasn't that impressed by either. I plan to go check this one out today at a local shop. I think it might be a nice addition to my rotation, especially for when deep concealment is the only option.

Thoughts? Experience?

Honest Outlaw review

S&W Bodyguard 2.0 Specs

My primary EDC is the S&W Shield Plus (15 round mag w/13 round mag in pocket). My vehicle gun mainly revolves between the S&W M&P 2.0 40cal 4" compact, the Beretta 92X Centurion, and the Beretta 92gts. Obviously, I tend to favor larger handguns and prefer a bigger grip. The 1911 government model is honestly my favorite handgun to shoot because of the full grip and weight! So....the thought of such a tiny and light gun would normally not catch my attention, but I'm intrigued by the BG 2.0!

I'll hang up and listen.

I held one at the range yesterday. It’s small. I might consider one if I didn’t have a G42. My G42 is rock solid and easily fits in my pocket. I have the ETS 7 rd mags for it.

I've heard good things about the Bodyguard. Don't have a need for another .380.

I EDC a Sig P365 .380 and love it. Took some breaking in because .380 is a lower powered round.

Truck gun is either a CZ P10C 9mm or M&P 2.0

I have the original BG .380 ...sweet lil gun...it does have a long trigger pull and reset which the new 2.0 looks to have improved...

I’m not a fan of the original bodyguard. The 2.0 looks more promising. I love my wife’s p365-380… so I’m sure I’d have a hard time choosing the 2.0 over that, but it would offer better concealment in a pocket.

If you decide to pull the trigger, Gunbuyer currently has the 'thumb safety-free' model for $399.00 and free shipping.

Not yet but I'm going to be buying one. Bought the girlfriend a shield 9 ez and it's a sweet little gun. Had an original bodyguard 380 and shouldn't have gotten rid of it. Replaced with a Ruger max 380. The Ruger is sloppy and starts rusting instantly when I'm jogging and sweating on it.. I'd like to find a model with the safety for a little extra piece of mind being shoved down my moto pants when riding the bike.

Local shops also have it for 399.

I held it today, and I am blown away. S&W just won the micro-mico war. The Ruger LCP and the Glock 42 simply don't compare to the grip, the functionality, size, and....looks!

Seriously, the 12 round mag made it feel as if I was holding the Shield Plus , but the BG 2.0 is so much smaller.

I'll probably get one soon. I just bought a Magnum Research 1911 10mm and a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 in the past 5 weeks. I'll give it some more time to allow my wallet to recover.

Damnit, I was just eyeing the BG 2.0 yesterday. Looks like I’m going to have to get one.

I just purchased the LCP Max not 2 months ago to replace an old Remington RM380. But my carry pistols are the S&W m2.0 3.6” and the Shield Plus. Looks like the new BG is the same design as the Shield. Would be a good idea to carry it for consistency in feel.

I'm an avid handloader, a hobby ballistician and an OCD inflicted steel shooter.

I get the massive advanes in bullet technology (design and materials) over the course of the past 10-15 years. And I understand the math.

What I don't get is why this new re-invigoration of a cartridge that has been proven to be impotent out of short barreled micro sized pistols.

A 95 grain pill (.380 or 9mm short or Kurz) traveling at, let's say, 980 fps (that's being very generous) delivers right at 200 flbs of energy. That's not enough to open up the bullet and penetrate 16-18 inches of tissue.

A 147 grain bullet (9mm) with a subsonic velocity of 1020 fps (easy to do, very common) delivers nearly 75% more energy in terms of flbs and penetrates to nearly perfect depths, consistently.

380 ACP is certainly better than nothing. Better than 25 ACP, perhaps better than 22 Mag or 22 LR depending upon the platform .... but I dunno. I guess this is all about size and weight and concealability?

Does the law of diminishing returns not kick-in at some point? Less controlability, more stove pipes, less accurate, poorer reliability, questionable results when needed the most?

With todays micro and macro 9s ... I don't get the fascination with the Kurz.

I do love the Shields though. Total HRs for S&W. The 2.0 and Plus are manageable and accurate and insanely reliable in 9mm.

In the summertime, my pocket pistol is a Bodyguard revolver in 38 +P. Even 38 +P puts 9 short to shame, from a kinetic energy dump point of view.

Concealability is the only reason I own an LCP. Sometimes pocket carry is my best option and it takes very little size increase over the LCP to make that non practical, and the LCP already isn't great if I'm wearing jeans. If I'm not pocket carrying I stick with 9mm.

Honest question...what constitutes a situation that it's better to pocket carry?

Personally, I appendix carry in everything from jeans to athletic shorts. I just have appropriate belts to do so. I've got one that is just a velcro strap with "rubber" grip for my skin. Doesn't loop through belt loops or anything. Perfect to wear just under jogging pants or athletic shorts. I just never see a reason for myself to put the gun directly in my pocket. Not knocking it, just trying to understand the thought process.

Generally anywhere where my shirt is tucked but I'm not wearing a jacket or may want to take the jacket off. Church (when it's hot), weddings, etc.

Or places where carry isn't technically legal.

Ideally I wish in every situation I could comfortably (for me) have a 9 on my hip. Typically my Shield Plus is on me. In cooler weather I’ll carry my M&P compact.

There are times I’m dressed in lightweight cotton shorts and a t-shirt, and I prefer a very light 380 in my pocket. There are mixed reviews on that, but I’m confident with a 380 in my pocket especially with 10 and 12 round 380s that are ultra compact available.

Well, I fired one a few days ago at the range, and I fell in love. I bought one today and will most likely bring it to the range tomorrow.

Put nearly 200 rounds through it! Flawless! Even hollow points.

The 12 round mag spring is a byotch, tho! I could only load 11. I'm sure it'll break-in, buy damn. I didn't have a mag loader.....but I'll bring one next time.

I seldom ever see a spring that stiff.

The rear sights need a slight adjustment. It isn't bad, though. I was shooting at a target with a 2.5 x 2.5 center circle. I centered the sights at the center of that circle at 21-24 ft. I had a great grouping about 1.5" to the left of the circle. I just adjusted to the right side of the circle and hit it.

There's zero muzzle flip! Easy to quickly get back on target for follow ups. All my rapid-fire mag dumps were giving 3.5-4" groupings.

This gun is the real deal!

I haven't looked at the bodyguard 2.0 yet, but the shield plus has a similar issue with the springs. It's not that they are tight, but the follower gets stuck on the coils. If that is the problem, you can file down the back guides where the spring sits.
