Well, the eagle's been flyin' slow
And the flag's been flyin' low
And a lotta people sayin' that America's fixin' to fall
Well, speakin' just for me
And some people from Tennessee
We've got a thing or two to tell you all

I kind of felt responsible for his death. I introduced my at the time 12 yo daughter to the CDB during a long drive. She really enjoyed the music and the use of string instruments. The next day Charlie’s death was announced.

Fun fact: His first hit, "Uneasy Rider" was about a hippie getting the best of a bunch of rednecks.in a bar fight. He also played as a session man on Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline album, as well as for noted communist Pete Seeger.

People say I'm no good and crazy as a loon
'Cause I get stoned in the morning
And get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound
I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain't got no money but I damn sure got it made
'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
If I cant get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long-haired country boy alone

Charlie Daniels opened for Alabama at a concert I went to. CD and his band brought the house down and Alabama came out next knowing they couldn’t top that and gave a so-so performance. It didn’t get loud again till Charlie came back out with them for a few songs to close the show. Charlie was more than just a musician, he was an entertainer as well.

As always, you are spot on. Especially when I'm drinking.

You know, Trav, I'm good.
Drinking a spot of gin and thinking about looking for the Sandman. I know he is close.
I hope you and yours are doing well.

I've seen a lot of live music from all genres and the two best were Charlie Daniels and Chris Ledoux.

My brush with greatness, I was in a bar band in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I once opened for CDB. He was a fantastic human being, he was very gracious to 5 rednecks.

For a lot of bands you just want to hear their hits. With bands like CDB or ZZ Top you could just listen to them play without knowing the songs.

Cause we'll all stick together
And you can take that to the bank
That's the cowboys and the hippies
And the Rebels and and the Yanks

Wish that was still true.

This lady may have stumbled
But she ain't never fell
And if the Russians don't believe that They can all go straight to hell

We're gonna put her feet back On the path of righteousness and then God bless America again

And you never did think That it ever would happen again In America, did you?

You never did think That we'd ever get together again We damn sure could

We're walking real proud And we're talkin' real loud again In America you never did think That it ever would happen again.

You just go and lay your hand
On a Pittsburgh Steelers' fan
And I think you're gonna finally understand
