In town for the few days. Staying on the Riverwalk for 2 nights and then going out to the JW Marrioott Hill Country for a few nights

Looking for any cant miss BBQ and Mexican spots. I prefer good BBQ that you don't have to get in line at 6am for lunch.

Thanks in advance FDB, you never have let me down.

2M Smokehouse is fantastic. A must for when I go to SA.

Great beef ribs and brisket.

Rosairo's for Mexican food in the downtown area....Palenque Grill near La Conterra for the best Mexican food outside of downtown.. 2M smokehouse is good...Alamo BBQ is better....best breakfast tacos in Texas can be had at Original Doughnut Shop on Fredricksburg Rd....Maverick , Carnital Longja, and the Modernist are all good places to eat..

If you're looking to drop a few hundred bucks at a steakhouse I highly recommend J Prime off 1604. It's incredible.

Google and Yelp are showing that Alamo BBQ is permanently closed.

Told this too many times, so most will want to skip it.

I was stationed at Ft Sam. A long time ago. We would take the bus from our company area to about two blocks off post. There was a Church's chicken place there, with a liquor store beside it. We would buy Church's Chicken with whole pickled Jalapeño peppers from a gallon jar on the counter, then go to the liquor store and buy "bargain priced" Wine - like $5.00 a bottle wine. Then we would catch the next bus back to the company area and sit on the curb behind the barracks and eat chicken and drink cheap wine.

Never did it in the barracks because it was pretty much a cloud of Marijuana smoke from one end to the other.

Yes!

Also go check out the Pearl district if you can. Lots of good spots.

The JW is excellent. Bring the mirrored sunglasses because it’s Milf city

Blanco Cafe
1720 Blanco Road

For the greatest plate of cheese enchiladas you will ever have.

Just ask them for a side of chopped onions to sprinkle on top (picture below is not mine and is lacking the onions).

Have you been to Herberts in San Marcos? It's my favorite but those do look damn good.

I loved their ribs. The macaroni and cheese is also delicious.

I agree. It's a great place that may be overlooked (at least when compared to other Top 50 Texas BBQ places throughout Texas).
