Question to the OT: how much HP is too much? Expected over 1k HP, would people even drive this on the road?

I’m a poser so a regular C8 is probably enough but who is this car for?

At least one American car manufacturer has the balls to make more horsepower than less.

you can only use 550-600 bhp if the car is set up to handle it (from a stop). supposedly this is going to be twin turbo and close to 1,000 at the flywheel.

i expect MSRP to be close to $200,000. there will be a line out the arse to get them and mark up is going to be insane. but i think it will top the equivalent models from mclaren, ferrari, and lambo from a performance standpoint.

i'm exited to see it. good to see the vette competing again.

Homologation. To race in certain GT categories, you have to make a certain number of road cars based on that. Another American example would be the Mustang GTD.

The new Corvettes look like spaceships. Trying too hard to look European.

This. The C8 is a great American-made machine that can compete with a lot of higher-end European cars for a fraction of the price.

I really want one but if nobody can tell it’s a ZR1 I’m happy with a regular C8 tbh. I’ll never take the performance to the max so does it matter? I think that’s my complaint about Vettes. Too many variant with huge performance differences and looks the same

Still really cheap compared to other cars in that category.

You can always put a bunch of after market ZR1 badges all over it…

But I’m sure it will have noticeable differences from a base model C8..

Rule #1 for potential corvette owners: Don't buy one for what other people might think or can see. When you are sitting behind the wheel, it really doesn't matter.

1000%

a low milage 2022 mclaren 720S is fetching $270K minimum. i feel like that is the closest competitor. used 488's are way higher.

not to mention the convenience of availability for service and warranty work if needed

I just wish they didn't go with the Camaro look taillights. Corvettes should have round taillights.

There should be no question just from a quick glance whether you're looking at a Corvette or a Camaro IMO. Not saying the differences aren't immediate for car people, but I'd have done something different.

But they are a performance bargain.

Large majority of people cannot tell the difference between a base 911 and a S/GTS/ Turbo /GT3/GT3RS.... but that doesn't/shouldn't stop anyone from buying.

How is it that every corvette owner broke rule #1 right out the gate?

Because sooner or later they realize other people don't really care. There are plenty of them on the road, to the point that it has just become another car in traffic.
