I can’t remember what kind they are other than the “normal big ones” according to my wife. A few plants are in a small garden and flourishing but won’t go past the flower. It blooms, turns yellow then falls off. Any reason why? I keep Seven Dust when needed. Any help is appreciated.

The cherry tomatoes 20’ away have done great with very little care.

Yes my stakes need work and shoutout to the basil.

Probably the heat. Having the same problem, got a few fruits to set when it got down in the low 60s couple weeks ago.

Get some BHN-589 tomato seeds and they’ll make tomatoes for you and your neighbors no matter how hot it gets.

As everyone else has said, tomatoes won’t set fruit if overnight temps are above around 70F. Some varieties are more heat tolerant but not by much in my experience. If they’re indeterminate and you can keep them alive for another two months they will start producing again, but disease usually catches up to them before then. Most folks just plant new ones in the fall.

Every single person I know that grows tomatoes is having issues this year. I'm in Tuscaloosa fwiw. I think it's the heat, man. but I can't be sure. it seemed hotter last year. i'm not sure what's up.

that basil is ROCKIN though, man.

The daytime temp has been cooler this July, but the nighttime has been warmer in your area. That could still have something to do with it.

In north AL I can't imagine our weeks-long drought followed by torrential and regular rains over the past week have helped all that much. We have had almost 6.75" of rain in less than a week after getting nothing at all from June 9 to July 18. More floating around today, but not over us......yet. Those fluctuations can be a problem.

astonishing but my big vines are still pumping out tomatoes. I found the tag they are “heirloom red beefsteak” that we got at the depot. I doubt they are actually heirloom but who knows. They’ve never faltered even in that heatwave in June. Very tasty too

Make yourself a big batch of pesto and freeze it in ice cube trays. You can eat pesto until next season.

I’ve done this once already, doing it again this weekend. My Thai basil is just as big and dropping seeds so now I have it coming up volunteer all over the place. Going to make a batch with it as well.

i haven't stopped to think about the night time temps being the issue. that makes a lot of sense.
