I think mine is many consecutive days of beer drinking.

I went to Rosemary Beach over the week of July 4th and drank beer everyday that week. The following week I came down with a gout attack. It finally subsided with laying off the adult beverages and drinking a lot of water.

I've never had gout but it runs in my family so maybe one day in the future. I'm 39 but I can count on two hands the number of times I've had more than one drink at a time and my dad's side of the family, which is where the gout history is, drinks (and drank) like the good catholic Irishmen that they are (were) so maybe that will help me not get it.

I probably just jinxed it.

If you haven't had a gout attack by now you probably won't get it. My dad gets the gout and half his kids (including me) get it and half don't.

I've had gout a few times in my life. For me it's beer. I can drink beer, I just can't drink a lot of it on consecutive days.

Red meat and seafood etc seems to not bother me.

Of course gout is triggered by beer and red meat, two of the best things on the planet. It couldn't be brussel sprouts and wine coolers

Same for me. And in the past I drank more heavily than any of the ones with gout.

Is gout mostly a problem with larger people? It seems all of my overweight friends complain about it often.

Turned 53 a few weeks ago and smoked a prime rib to celebrate. Drank plenty of beer as well. 2 days later, I woke up feeling like my big toe needed to pop. Had no idea what the problem was, but it got worse and worse. Then after a week taking motrin to no avail, my foot swelled up to where it wouldn't even fit in a croc. Got the shot from the doctor and the pills. And another week, it's finally where I can walk without pain.

frick that shite. I haven't taken a drink since then and have been trying to flush with water. Took me 53 years, but now I understand what people were saying about gout.

Unsure how my diet will change though.

It's more common in fat people, but some people just have high uric acid levels. I work with a guy that's probably 5'8" 150 lbs and he has chronic gout.

Watch your shellfish intake.

Also, get a script for allopurinol.

I think so.

Also for people that have a genetic predisposition.

I'm 6' 0", 200 pounds. I could lose 15. Being a dad takes it's toll.

Never had it. My Dad suffered with it, off and on. Shrimp was a trigger for him.
