he's just a Hollywood has-been who is struggling with the reality that at the end of his life, he is an irrelevant old man. his one way of getting back to some semblance of the relevance or what he believes to be importance that he craves is to be the loudest anti-Trump squawker he can be, because he knows that will get him the media coverage that he otherwise couldnt get. sad! many such cases.

its common knowledge tat De Niro was going all-in on the Home Alone 2 Lost in New York cameo. Trump took it on a whim and crushed it. De Niro always tells close friends that he could have put forth an oscar worthy performance and he seethes about that lost chance.
