I never liked the dude... never understood the fawning over him after he off-ed himself.
The content he covered was ok, his personality brought it down though.

I feel that he was a POS. I prefer Gordon Ramsey.

I thought he was douchey and only liked by snobs or people who wanted to believe they were snobs. He gets a lot more love than he deserves because he killed himself.

Not douchey to me.
An a-hole maybe but he seemed very genuine. And I would rather be around a genuine a-hole than some hollow fake nice guy.

Nailed it.

He was kind of a phony. In the end, he hated what he did and the people he had to deal with.
He also hated his audience. Cant blame him there.

Everything I've seen of him seemed pretentious.
This quote:
Seemed like he was a hypocrite in he held the belief that he determined what was "authentic" in life.
Dude killed himself, he was certainly searching for something. All those quotes preaching about people needing to travel and see the world and experience different things leave a bad taste in my mouth after that.
Not sure why, just never found him charming.
This quote:
quote:
Do we really want to travel in hermetically sealed popemobiles through the rural provinces of France, Mexico and the Far East, eating only in Hard Rock Cafes and McDonald's? Or do we want to eat without fear, tearing into the local stew, the humble taqueria's mystery meat, the sincerely offered gift of a lightly grilled fish head?

I too never saw the allure. Nothing I've ever heard him say was remotely interesting enough to make me see him as some kind of advanced thinker or philosopher.
But he's pretty revered here. Now prepare for the DV attack. It always comes once you speak ill of the Bourdain on this board.

I absolutely loved his show growing up, and I thought that he was cool. It made me want to travel and see/experience things. I thank him for that.
After watching the doc on him, it seems that he was a very complicated person who was sincere, but then fame turned him into an a-hole, and he made the costly mistake of putting pussy on a pedestal.

I thought he was douchey until I watched the Louisiana based episodes.
I love the crawfish boil/boucherie and the Mari’s Gras episodes.

I liked him. He was a talented writer that happened to cook.

Douche. Never liked him or his shows. Andrew Zimmerman falls in to the same category. Gordon Ramsey is legit entertaining

Was thinking the same. It's like visiting NYC for a weekend and choosing to eat at Sbarro Times Square each night.

He was an entertaining a-hole. The only reason I don't completely write him off is he directed that dickhead energy towards himself too. Obviously more talented than me, but I get it, I can come across as a pretty intense dickhead, but I also hold myself to that impossible standard as well.
