No one has mentioned him as a replacement that I recall, but he seems like a logical pick being that he almost became the speaker of the house the last year.
the Democrats clearly like him so why wouldn’t he be at the top of the list to replace Biden?

If you think that the dems are going to throw in the towel I think you are mistaken. If that was the case they'd just let Biden run. I truly believe that they believe that if they run anyone else besides Biden they can win, because they just can't wrap their heads around Trump not being the evil boogey man that enlightened people won't vote for.
