If Trey Murphy put on 20lbs would his game be even stronger?

I know he is a shooter, I like his length and his fire. He is already a huge threat in transition…. but if his body fills out, could he play underneath at a high level as well?

You may be right…I’ve seen plenty players continue to evolve their bodies to suit their game though. Especially as they got into their mid to later 20s.

He needs to work on his handles more than anything.

I thought his handle was massively improved at the end of last year. As was his defense. What is a must from him is help on the boards. And him getting stronger will go a long way.

20 lbs? People really are delusional when it comes to packing on muscle and weight. That guy is 6’9, with minimal, very minimal body fat. Putting 20 lbs on his frame would hinder the hell out of his athleticism. You put 8 lbs on that dude he’d be hard to handle if i got a post game. But for a 3 and drive guy it’s just not even a thought. Guys like AD who came out looking like a pencil, yeah getting in the gym and putting on muscle was a must. Nothing wrong with TM frame or strength right now

You might be right. I know football is a different type of athleticism, but those guys adjust their bodies regularly.

Trey has a big frame and could benefit by adding some thickness.

I would trade a little bit of his spring for a little more ability to compete in the post.

He'll gain way more than that over the next 5-10 years. 6'9 guys don't weigh 200lbs the majority of their lives. He's going to keep training and lifting. He will get stronger, which means he'll add more muscle over time. He should end up I'm the 230s, if not heavier. By the time he hits 30 (when the yourhful leaping ability is way gone), he'll primarily be playing the 4 so he be start gaining now. Players move up, it doesn't happen the other way..

His athleticism has not translated. He doesn't have great balance and his handle has a long way to go. I hope he does put it together as a wing, but I don't think the other poster is being obscene thinking Trey could dedicate himself in the gym and become very valuable as a deadly stretch big. Trey should try to become what AD wanted to be.

Yep. That’s my point. Putting on muscle mass would not change his shot. With the current talent we have, Trey could help us with added strength.

Could, yes. But not this season. It will take time and we are only a couple of months till the team reports. If he did a huge bulk before training camp, I think he could jack his shot up as well as mess with his conditioning.

There is a smart, systematic way for him to add size without compromising his other attributes. It should enhance or elevate them, if done correctly. But I wouldn't expect anything more than 5-6lbs an offseason..
