He looks like he saw it the whole time. Should have engaged sooner

He was 100% tracking a target.

Could he have been waiting for clearance to engage?

He clearly looks up to see where the gunfire is coming from then moves his tripod and retakes his aim

That baw that was interviewed and was upset about the lack of urgency to get the police to do something about the guy on the roof with a gun did say it would've been hard or impossible to see him due to how the roof was designed. Maybe it was a restaurant with parapet walls.

A restaurant would also have a hatch inside the building for access/ladder.

The random guy that described it all said he was pointing to the cops and SS but they couldn't see the shooter because he was on the opposite side of the roof covered by the slope.

I suspect they were calling that in on their radio and were telling the sniper to watch that spot, which is why he was trained so tightly on it. I imagine the shooter popped his head over just before taking the shot, and that's when you see the SS sniper jerk his head for a second like "holy shite, I see him, can I shoot". Then in the second he was waiting, shooter started shooting and SS sniper immediately opened counterfire.

If the shooter had taken more time lining up before taking the shot after coming over the crest of the roof, he would have been killed before getting the shot off. It's probably why he missed because that's relatively short range.

I don’t understand why he took his head off his rifle.. seems like poor training

This is my guess. Needed permission to engage. Once shots are fired he is free to engage and doesn’t need approval.

Conspiracy theorists will presume something sinister was going on, but the most likely situation here is that there was miscommunication between SS and local law enforcement about reports of someone being on the opposite roof.

I.E. bystanders were pointing it out to police. Police were confused and/or unsure about it possibly being SS. SS were confused and/or unsure about it possibly being law enforcement.

Because it’s easier to quickly locate a shooter 130 yards away when you’re not looking through a scope.

He was glassing other areas, heard the shots, looked up to see where they were coming from, moved his tripod to focus on the subject building, and then retook his aim

Looks like he is scanning. Don't think he saw him or he wouldn't have jumped.

Which is actually pretty badass that he was able to locate the shooter and take him out in that fast amount of time.

The lady right behind trump from the front camera view heard something from off stage or from where the SS sniper was. She turns her head over there before the bullets from assassin are fired.

I'm team trump, but you have to realize there a bunch of different agencies involved. Things are also happening really fast, there are a ton of people there, and it's very loud. Probably a miscommunication, but that sniper did his job and smoked the target

And I imagine the shooter was gone within 2 seconds afterwards.

You can’t just go popping off rounds, it could’ve been some local swat member somewhere they shouldn’t have been.

But even rudimentary communication should’ve identified the threat and cleared for engagement in seconds. No chance that knucklehead went up there and popped off rounds immediately.

Someone f’d up big time.
