This kid golf equipment stuff has me stressed

I know this is like my 3rd thread on this so I’m sorry, but I can’t seem to get it right.
My son is 5 but he’s almost 49” tall. According to US kids that puts him right in between different clubs, I got him the longer one so he will grow into it. We got it and went to his golf clinic today and it’s clearly too heavy for him. The issue i he’s tall, the 48-51” clubs are meant for 7 yr olds! He may be as tall as a 6-7 yr old but he’s not as strong as one!
So he was swinging his old 27” iron and driver today which is obviously too small, he’s having to bend over to hit it.
Someone tell me if it matters, obviously if I got him the right clubs he could hit the ball further and better, but I feel like that’s my vanity and not his, what matters is that he’s learning and having fun which he is.
My question I guess is will swinging the wrong sized club for a little while mess up his swing?
I know I’m probably way over thinking this I just want my guy to be set up for success but also don’t want to be that parent that is pushing their 5yr old and spending all the unnecessary money just to make myself feel good

Get the longer set, US Kids can be used within a 3 inch window.

This is the problem. I got him just one club to see, an 8 iron and I went longer. The issue is it’s too heavy for him. He’s a very tall 5 yr old and the 51” club is designed for a 7yr old. It’s just too heavy.
So basically I guess I need to buy him an ultralight driver and iron in the 48” and go from there.

You are overthinking this. He's 5 let him grow into it. Things don't have to be perfect
End of the day, just make sure he's having fun.

First off good on you for being this dedicated to making sure you’re making the right decision. You’re a good dad for this so stop thinking you’re “over thinking.”
Now, I’m no expert but from what I’ve read it’s the length of the clubs that’s most critical to getting the right form going. He will grow into them and as his swing form gets better it will get easier for him to swing the club. Right now he hasn’t developed any muscles when it comes to the golf swing, and I’m sure he is doing a lot of casting and other wonky stuff which can make the club play like it’s 1000 lbs. golf is all about leverage. Right now he has very little. It will come quickly though so just concentrate on his form and the rest will come.
If the clubs are REALLY too heavy you can have some custom made for him with light shafts and heads. There is always a way. It will be more expensive but right now he doesn’t need a full set by any means. Find a qualified club fitter.
FWIW ladies club heads are generally lighter than some others. You might find a few good light weight cast ladies heads and some lightweight graphite shafts and you could have something made for him.

Just wait…….
started my son at 5 with set of Wilson’s off the rack.
Now that he is 9, he is on his 3rd iron set plus a re-shaft. And he has a better driver and woods than I do.
My advice Stick with us kids super light till he’s around 8. Equipment won’t make a difference for him till then anyways. And at that age I’d check out the ping prodi G’s

This. My daughter started at 7 and the only real expectation was to have fun and spend time together. The clubs don't need to be perfect.

Ernest Jones would disagree.
Leverage can be overemphasized.
A swing is a continuous motion.
I see many different of explanations of the golf swing. Some key on positions and leverage. Others focus on the continuity of the swinging motion.
I’m always confused when I see great teachers disagree regarding “leverage” as the key to the swing.
All I know if I can miss it to both sides using any swing thought or method.

John Daly learned on adult sized clubs as a kid. He did alright

90% of financial investment on best coaching available - 10% on clubs and equipment and if too young have the kid do tae kwon do - learning the forms to earn different belts is the best way to condition a young body to process proper swing instruction later….

PING might have the answer for you.
Prodi G Jr Clubs
Maybe this would help?
“Get Golf Growing”
As junior golfers grow, so does the need to ensure they are properly fit to their equipment. The PING Prodi G “Get Golf Growing” program is engineered with that in mind, offering a one-time, no-charge club adjustment service. This of it as buying two sets for the cost of one.
To be eligible, consumer must purchase a minimum of five Prodi G junior clubs (any combination) in one transaction. Purchases of fewer than five clubs are not eligible. Purchase will be verified via the set’s serial number to confirm eligibility.
Consumer is entitled to a one-time, no-charge service to have the clubs re-shafted or lengthened, re-weighted, and re-gripped to optimize performance as the golfer grows. (Cost of re-finishing not included.) Clubs do not need to be altered at the same time. There is no expiration date for the one-time opportunity.*
Consumer is responsible for shipping costs to PING. PING covers shipping and handling costs back to the consumer upon completion of the alterations.
Turnaround time is estimated at one week upon receipt of clubs at PING’s facility.
*Program applies only to 2018 and 2024 Prodi G junior clubs. No other PING junior clubs are eligible. Clubs will be re-shafted and re-gripped with the stock components from their respective model year (2018 or 2024). No substitutions."

Yea this makes sense. My son is 5 so I’m not putting him in private lessons until he shows he really wants it. He does skills clinics, plays par 3 courses with me, and smashes the hell out of water balloons in the backyard thanks to your advice

By the way, I went to the PGA superstore and bought him a driver and 8 iron that fit him well. He got to hit on a simulator which he loved, then we went to play a par 3 course and he was smashing it, hit a few of the furthest balls I’ve ever seen him hit. Best of all, he wants to go play again tomorrow!

My 7-year-old came home from golf practice yesterday with his driver head in one hand and the driver shaft in the other. Said when he hit the ball the head just went flying. LOL, no, it was probably the repeatedly beating the head into the ground when chunking your shot that you and your older brother before you did.
Looks like I'm in the market for a left-handed youth driver. Probably better he just hits his hybrid off the tee for now anyway.
