Just another link in the chain for them to screw your luggage. I would prefer to bypass this option.

I’ve never used this because getting on a shuttle that leaves the airport property seems like a giant pain in the arse.

Do the shuttles generally run on time and as advertised? Have an upcoming 8 day trip which is a length I consider other parking options besides the short term lot.

it’s a pain in the arse and not worth the savings unless everything else is full. I matter how long I’m gone I try to park in short term it’s worth the convenience

only upside is you are guaranteed a covered spot and the baggage check option is nice.

I would never park in that lot.

I’m at the point in my life where convenience outweighs minor increases in cost. Short term lot every time for me

Yep, shuttles run regularly and take about 15 minutes.

Short term parking is definitely the most convenient but comes at a cost of $100 more than economy for a week trip. If available, that’s our preferred default but I don’t like making reservations since they’re non refundable and we would always chose economy over long term and US Park.

Wondering if it might be more convenient for a lot of luggage, strollers, car seats etc with small kids to not have to walk from long term to check in gate.

I'd be worried sick the whole flight if I left all that shite with someone in that old garage and just hopped on a bus to the new terminal. I can't imagine any amount of savings in cost or convenience would make up for how much I'd be sweating waiting to see if everything showed up at my end destination.

I've been a US park guy but I may try economy lot next time. Something your responded to me hit me. Last time I parked at US park my car was so hot my steering wheel was burning my hands and my dash cam and cell phone mounts glue came off.
Economy is in the shade.
.
Though I live less than 3 miles from airport so most times I get a ride then uber home. I just hate paying $20 for a ride right down Loyola.

To me, it's not more convenient than short term, but definitely more convenient than US Park. Long term and US Park just don't make much sense to me.

Maybe make better friends with some of your neighbors.

We tried it twice and never again.

Once, it was pouring rain and we got absolutely soaked.

The other time they only had one shuttle in operation...we pulled in and they said the next shuttle would be back in about 30 minutes.

I’ve heard it said that, more than really anything else, US airports are in the parking business. Meaning it drives revenue.

With that in mind, and seeing how much available space there remains around the new terminal, I can’t fathom why they didn’t build the parking out to the point that there is zero chance those garages/lots by the new terminal would ever fill up to capacity and have to turn people away.

The vast majority of people were just never going to want to park in those old garages regardless

I concur.

I fly at least monthly (probably spend 60 days a year away through MSY).

I have always parked in the Short-Term Parking garage (almost always on Level 4) and pay the premium.

You can easily enter the garage through the little secret entrance on the right just past where you drop off departing folks in front of the terminal.

I'm simply not getting there early enough to shuttle over and then have to deal with that on the back end when returning, especially counting on NOLA's reliability.

When it's available, it's more convenient but factor in a few things. If you're flying for work you're probably not paying the parking costs anyway. Traveling for vacation often times requires more bags and with kids involved, they can't always haul their luggage. The other caveat is that short term doesn't always have availability and reservations are non refundable.

$100 for a week is alot for some people and for what may amount to 20 more minutes, it's an easy way to save money and make travel day logistics easier.

I was hesitant about economy as well until I tried it. I havent tried the surface lot but have used ling term, short term, US park and economy and it's one thing they do a very solid job on.

The door from Level 4 of the Short Term Parking Garage at MSY to the nearest Airline kiosk is less than 100 yards of flat floor. It doesn't get any better than this.

You can drop the kids/family/parents off at the front doors instead (where the sky caps are) and be parked and meet your party inside within five minutes or less.

There is no way that anyone is getting to/from from the old terminal in 20 more minutes ever.

Double it best case. The first 5 Levels of the Short Term are covered.

I get being on a budget but my time and convenience is worth the premium whether I'm paying for it or not. Also, my way is safer, no shuttle van crash to worry about, better security all-around, easier to get on the Interstate.

I've said multiple times short term is more convenient and is my preferred option but it's not always available. When it isn't or for the budget conscious, economy is the next best option.

Travel time is roughly 15 minutes and you can add about 10 minutes at most from the time the first person steps on the shuttle until the time it drives away. Subtract the time it takes to walk from long term and then going up the elevator or escalator and it's 20 minutes.

40 minutes is a ludicrous estimate.

I’ll be flying out of MSY for the first time later this week. Is long term a decent option, and is it necessary to reserve in advance?

Yeah, it's not a bad option. Unless it's a busy week / holiday, etc you don't need a reservation but you can always check the availability here.

For $4 more a day, short term is a better option if available.
If we can't get short term, we prefer to save the $10, walk less and use the on site baggage check and just park in economy.

this is the absolute best and easiest way. The 4 bucks a day extra is a bargain
