Hey OT,

Got a homeowners insurance policy through which Safeport Insurance is the carrier and the policy is under Sage Sure.

I’m new to being a homeowner. Does anyone have any experience with this policy? I don’t mind my rates, but I definitely don’t want to get screwed if I actually need to use them.

Through some horror stories I’ve heard, I have a fear of being with a homeowners insurance company that won’t pay out and just leave town. Which begs the question, what the hell do you even do when they put you in that situation?

FWIW, I’m in Jefferson Parish.

If this is south LA then ANYONE actually writing reasonable policies are shitholes...

But to OP, nothing wrong with SageSure. They all have horror stories of non-payment and all have heaps of praise at the same time

I have SafeCo because they’re the only carrier that will cover my rook (corrugated metal). This roof isn’t going anywhere and is sturdy as frick (and has been for 35-40 years, yet carriers won’t fricking cover it anymore for some gay reason.

Wtf actually happens when your insurance company won’t pay? Do you just live in a fema trailer the rest of your life?

This state is insane.

I have Occidental thru Sage Sure. I had zero problems with them for IDA. Being familiar with the industry helped me with the adjustor but they paid on time and paid well. Policy went from $2000 a year before IDA to $4200 now. Still best I can find.

We have Elevate through SafeSure. Very reasonable premium considering. They’re rated with the LDI.

We wrote last summer and our renewal was only $43 more this year.

Still too much but it is what it is.

Damn son. Mine went up 400 dollars this year. It’s whatever. I’m still satisfied with the overall price especially considering with the poor bastards that are stuck with Citizens get.

An insurance policy is a contract. It spells out the conditions under which the insurer is obligated to pay you. Just because you think the insurer should pay you something doesn’t mean your contract actually requires them to.

If the insurer doesn’t pay when they should have, your recourse is to sue them and prove in court that the contract obligates them to pay you, same as any other situation involving breach of a contract.

It’s because if it does get fricked up it’s incredibly expensive to replace.

Makes sense. Excuse my ignorance.

I haven’t actually read the specific terms of the policy line by line so I don’t know what specifically they could contest if a storm effed up my house.

Should probably read it.

I had Sage Sure when Laura and Delta passed. Had just purchased when Delta passed and lost a ton of shingles. The assessor came out and recommended a repair. It was about 40% of the roof. Roofer says in Louisiana, if its 50%, its a whole new roof. So, we had to get them back out to meet with roofer. They eventually paid to replace the whole roof but it was kind of a mess. 2 agents in a row left and I eventually had to escalate the issue but it eventually got taken care of. Took about 8 months.

That’s who we had and it was going to like $8000. I was like f that.

We had to change the roof but it was time anyway and we’re not the “worst and try to get insurance to change it” type.

SageSure just paid me out a new roof because of some "hail damage."

I’d say run away and fast but I’m not sure there are many choices left.

Had a very negative experience with them concerning a water damage claim.
