BATON ROUGE - The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a contract extension for LSU head softball coach Beth Torina as well as other athletic contract moves on Friday with no objections.

Torina's contract was extended for two more years and will now run through August 31, 2028, with no change in annual salary or supplemental pay.

Torina had two years remaining on her existing contract that was set to expire in 2026.

All this does is shows me Scott doesn’t give two shits about softball.

What was the rush to extend her deal? For recruiting?

No doubt Torina called Scott’s bluff with the “I can’t recruit with an expiring contract.”

But yes, I agree this shows that softball is not high on Scott’s list of priorities. Just win more than you lose and OKC does not matter.

Yep. Stupid decision that he will end up regretting. Why the rush? Beth is not a hot commodity. Nobody is trying to steal her from us.

It just sends the message that he's ok with mediocrity.

Or it shows that Scott recognizes the changing landscape of college athletics.

Some of these non-revenue sports will go away. Title IX may even go away or be altered.

Getting rid of a successful softball coach on the off chance that the next one MIGHT be a bit more successful is not part of the calculus any more.

In fact, the next softball coach will likely make less than the current one.

All that counts is the buyout, did our AD extend that or leave it at 2026..that’s the key question

You’d rather overpay for another coach? Who’s available and better than Torina without overpaying? I’ll wait.

Scott Woodward is not ready to put serious efforts into softball.

My observation is this: concern about football dwarves every sport at LSU. But there are 4 lesser sports (in terms of interest) that we should all focus on. ..MBB, WBB, Baseball, and Gymnastics.
