Lame / Semi-Lame 4th of July trip to KC - any suggestions?

Going to a soccer game, going to the Negro Leagues museum. Other than that, haven't crafted a plan.
Any good restaurant or brewery recommendations?
We're staying in the Crossroads area - will have a car. Can drive where ever and do whatever.
There for three full days, with an extra evening. Sheep, Mrs. Sheep, 10 yo Mrs. Sheep Jr..

Lived there over a decade ago so this is dated, but here are a couple of ideas.
I highly recommend the World War 1 museum which is near where you are at. More of a drive, but the KC Zoo is a great zoo if you like those.
As for restaurants in that area, Pierponts at Union Station is really good, but is upscale so not sure its what you are looking for. For KC BBQ check out Joe's KC BBQ or Jack Stack BBQ (I remember it feeling a little touristy). Jack Stack is right where you are staying, but Joe's is probably worth the 20 or so minute drive. I am sure the restaurants have changed a lot since we lived there so hopefully others chime in with more recent options.
ETA: just saw a couple of restaurant ideas in the Idaho road trip thread - Joe's or Q39 for BBQ (said Q39 was best, wasn't open when I lived there), Farina's and Grünauer were the others.

If you like barbecue, my two suggestions would be Gates and Arthur Bryant’s. The latter is right by the Negro League Museum.
Joe’s Kansas City is also good and very well run. You’ll see a huge line but it won’t be nearly as bad as you think, in terms of waiting.
The Nelson-Adkins art museum is very impressive.
I thought Kansas City was pretty underrated tbh.

You are staying in one of my favorite parts of town. Lot of great restaurants and breweries in that area.
For BBQ I’d skip Gates and Arthur Bryant’s. They are Meh. I’ve had much better bbq at Q39, Slaps, Joes.

They may do a free fireworks show by the WW1 museum for the 4th of July. They have in the past.

A friend recently went to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and said it was very good, plus not real crowded.

The WW1 museum is great and there is a nice view of the city. Union Station is just down the hill and I've heard good things about it but never have been.
Royals games are always fun.

Agreed on both. Another museum that gets overlooked is the Arabia Steamboat museum. A ship carrying supplies up the river to the frontier went down in the Missouri River and it was just loaded with stuff from the 1850's. It was preserved in good condition. The Missouri River changed course a number of times and the ship was actually under a farm field. A good friend of my brother is in the family that found it. They were hoping for gold on the ship. Instead, they run a museum now. It's a good one.

I had a great meal at Extra Virgin. Also, drove over to Slaps BBQ in Kansas for tremendous bbq.

Quick note or thanks for all the suggestions - we had a good time. We ate well, drank well and we were never bored. And the weather was way better than South Louisiana!

rather than starting a new thread I will just bump this one
We will be in KC early October for Saints@Chiefs. Seems to already be plenty of good food/drink recs in here.
Anything outdoors we should hit up in the somewhat area of KC for that time of year? We are flying in but I can rent a car or do Turo for a day if there is something worth driving outside of KC to.
