I'm completely jealous of schools like Arizona State, SMU and Tennessee State have hockey team. How can we help make LSU into a D1 program?

So they can have another non-revenue sport to outspend everyone at?

They've got a club team. They came up to Shreveport earlier this year to play ETBU in a couple of games. I admire kids on a club team for basically paying all of their own expenses to keep playing, but they were bad. Really bad.

Title IX. If you want more men's sports we need to have a women's football team. That would give you about 75 - 100 new spots for men to have sports.

We should lean harder into Louisiana's cultural ties with Canada here and demand hockey as our birthright. It's our sport, and we have been separated from it... it's time to reclaim it!

the reason we left Canada was so we could play college football instead of hockey.

History books don't tell you that part, but it's the real reason.

No sir. Make your own culture today. Move forward, forget the rear view.

I'd love it too. There's plenty of issues in the way though. Where would they practice and where would they play? The Zydeco have to practice all the way in Lafayette even though they play games in the River Center. Doubt LSU would want to foot the bill on that. Maybe the new basketball arena coming up could be convertible to hockey

The biggest issue is Title IX though. Hockey would probably be down the list of men's sports they would add, probably behind soccer and wrestling and probably even lacrosse. They would need more women's sports to go alongside these. Maybe if football with how it's being restructured no longer counts toward men's scholarship limits when they're employees and get revenue sharing then maybe that'll free up some men's scholarships to add some more programs. But if that is the case hockey is further down the list of mens sports they would add here.

We tried to start a club team in 2013 and got told to suck a dick by the UREC. We made a presentation and everything, even asked if we could just get the jerseys they had in storage so we didnt have to order our own and they said no.

Bastards.

Available ice is a problem that has deeper roots than that. Dallas, Nashville, and Phoenix metro areas have multiple rinks, practice facilities, and youth hockey programs.

They produce a quality pool of local players. Their youth hockey leagues have even produced NHL players. Where is the nearest youth hockey league from Baton Rouge?

The entire team would have to be comprised of players outside of Louisiana, and most of them from far outside of the Gulf South. It’s impossible to field a competitive team of 20+ athletes with a non-existent regional talent base.

Hmm, I'll bet if you think about this for a second something may occur to you that makes it clear why they have hockey while most other colleges in very hot climates don't
