My son just dropped his first country EP on all platforms

I have been a member of this board since 2005, but mainly lurk, however, I do get some great information from this site.
My son just dropped his first country EP on all platforms. He writes all his own songs and is self taught on guitar. These songs are mostly acoustic but he has a band as well he performs with when they can find gigs.
He was raised in Celina, TX but has a lot of Louisiana roots from my side of the family growing up in northeast La in Rayville.
I am very proud of him and am just looking for some outside feedback.

Ehh. Not too many dicks who post on this board. At least, the dicks don't tend to act dickish on this board.

Not at all my cup of tea but good luck to him

Your son has talent for the game, impressive potential. Sounded a tad like David Gray if he had ever tried Country music.

I'm not a fan of country, but I hope he makes a million dollars off his talent.

Not bad at all. I was expecting douchebag bro country and it was certainly not that. Not sure if it qualifies as country but who cares? If Noah Kahan can get rich/popular so can your son. Best of luck to him.

I listened to a few songs and thought it was solid. That Texas red dirt with some more rock influence is right in my wheelhouse. I liked Backwoods and Cigarettes a lot.
Best of luck to him.

good raspy voice there on the first song definitely a good singer
Its just he sounds kind of like any of these young country artists, and the dangly earings baw, oh god.
Oh no and gold chains and shite? dude come on, does he look up to jelly roll or something? Maybe thats just in these days. but doesnt scream country.
if you posted a pic of your son and said, listen to this new country artist, I would have just passed thinking it would be terrible.

Finally had a chance to sit down and take a listen.
Generally speaking, good stuff. I think describing your son's music as "country" is stretching things, but only in that Chris Stapleton "country" kind of way. Your son's vocal style reminds me of hints of Chris Robinson, Rob Thomas, and Brad Arnold.
Hearing lots of influences throughout. There's a pop song by a female vocalist I can't put my finger on right now that's so similar to "Broken Remedies" that it's uncanny.
Hearing some "All Along the Watchtower" in "What is Love." Like the duet component.
Like the harmonica on "Wrong and Right." Hints of Tom Petty, I think.
While "Broken Remedies" and "What is Love" are the strong and well-produced cuts, the stripped down "Wrong and Right" is the real gem on the EP.
My wife loves this kind of stuff. And that's not a knock on the music.

Thank you for all the constructive thoughts. Country is such a broad genre. When he gigs,he covers a lot of Red Dirt, not so much new Nashville bro country, very much singer/songwriter vibes. When he plays with his band it is more of a Southern Rock with a Country vibe. The songs that he released are also played with his band and it is a totally different experience.
All of your thoughts on influences are correct, he has listened to everything from Eagles, to Eminem and Johnny Cash to J Cole. Up until now his lyrics are from his heart from things that he has gone through in his young life.
"What is Love" is a song he wrote about his mom, my wife, from a previous relationship filled with domestic violence and drugs.
"Wrong and Right" is one of my favorites, but "Magic Mirror" is my favorite probably due to me knowing what the song is really about, because we lived through it with him.

Not bad. I have heard far, far shittier music than this that calls itself country. This wasn’t shitty by the way

I said I was going to comment. But this guy nailed it. So I will steal his.
Good luck to him.

He has IT. Songwriter/Singer/Player. Not really that many like that. Very impressed.
Where is he living now? I'm from Rayville, and also have a son who is a musician in Monroe.

I wanted to be a dick when I first read this, but I have to say, your son impressed me. That type of music isn't really on the top of my list, but he sounds good.

I am a 92 graduate. But my brother and sister are your age. Margie and Robbie Adams, Rob was killed in a crosser in the late 90’s. My brother other Charlie still lives there.
Who is your son?
Posted on 6/27/24 at 6:03 pm to chadams4lsu
Stepson, actually. His name is Kirby Rambin. He's a fiddle player.
I barely remember them.

I like it. I have a decent amount of followers on twitter related to country music, he'd fall in their wheelhouse for sure. I'll post him over there.
