Browns big drop

I keep seeing experts on here saying that it was “routine” and “catch the damn ball” etc.
To me, from watching on tv…..that ball was roped and we were lucky it wasn’t gone.
Looked like he was in good position to make the play but it didn’t hang in the air forever. It was on a line.
He made the mistake of not checking the wall, but i think he had time.
Should he have caught it? Yes. He probably catches it most of the time. But it wasn’t as “routine” as some of you are saying.
Personally, I know I wouldn’t stand a chance in Hell catching that ball and that’s a triple in “travel ball”.
I went to Barbe, so this is very hard for me. That’s all I’ll say.

It was far from routine. Should have been caught no doubt, but calling it a routine catch is inaccurate

He had it all the way. At the last second he looked down and lost it. Probably because of the lights. Can’t catch what you can’t see.

A Barbe guy sticking up for a Sulphur guy. I’m having flashbacks of the “cats and dogs living together!” line in Ghostbusters.
Kidding aside, I agree with you. And we’re talking about a kid who probably doesn’t have a lot of OF experience growing up.

Wonder if Larson would have fared better.
I’ll never understand letting Kling pinch hit just so he could play cf

Not routine, should’ve been caught

That’s not what happened.
I’ll never understand posters that criticize something while having zero idea of what actually happened.

The ball in the first inning was routine. Both should’ve been caught by a SEC outfielder. Brown has no instincts or feel for the outfield. I’m guessing that’s why he spent time at 1B in the fall.

Gut wrenching. Should have been caught. Along with the 1st inning ball dropping at his feet, I recall about 5 “drops” in the outfield in the past week or two. The last one, the back breaker, was the most routine of all of them. If any were. You’ve got to make those catches playing in the outfield for LSU. Not one was come down with. This is going to sting for a while.

Jake is a talented young player with a ton of potential to become a super star. We would not have made the run we have without his contributions.

I think that's where he played mostly in high school when he wasn't pitching. Whether it be at Arizona or LSU, Jay has been willing to sacrifice defense for more offense. When you do that, these things are going to happen from time to time.

It definitely should've been caught. The only thing i can think is the trajectory, which was lower than a fly ball, had it in the lights for a longer period of time.
I think the look down was him knowing he lost it and he was protecting his face.
I feel bad for the guy and won't blame him for the loss. There were other opportunities to win.

Very rarely does one play determine the outcome of a game, and in this case a dropped fly ball did not cost us the game. Hats off to the Tigers. Jake Brown will be a great player for us

For me it was Brown not going after that ball in tge 1st inning, he catches that, we win. The Miss in the 10th, it appears he got turned around a bit and lost it in the lights

Agreed. I was also shocked Pearson didn’t lay out for one in the 9th or 10th.

There’s a lot to second guess about last night.
However, all of it is moot when you only have one single after the 4th inning. 3 runs was never gonna win that game against that UNC team.
