Again, really just getting into the minutia of golf now that I’m playing 4+ times a week vs once every couple of weeks during the summer. I guess putter technology escapes me compared to most other clubs. Is it really mostly about balance and feel? Feels like I see a lot of variety on putters and am trying to sift through the marketing BS.

Was looking at the odyssey OG 7 or the 2 ball. I’ve always liked them even if they are tried and true designs and not necessarily flashy. Not sure how I could justify forking over $450 for the latest putter when I’m not sure what advantage I’m gaining.

The real question is toe hang or face balanced. Usually most face balanced putters are mallets. Blade putters have toe hang as well as some mallets. So it comes down to how you release the putter, toe means you swing in a slight arc and let the face open a bit to,the path and square itself on the thru stroke, Face balanced means straight back and thru with minimal to no face rotation. Beyond that it gets down to forgiveness, mallets have a higher MOI and are usually more forgiving after that it gets down to preferred shape as a player.

Try a bunch on a real putting green. Also consider grip size as a determining factor. I wouldn’t buy new. Putters are like drivers, a ton of people switch every few years. Plenty of options available on the used market at better price points.

It's usually said that mallet putters are better for shorter putts, especially with alignment, and blade putters are better for longer putts and determining speed on them specifically.

I used a blade for 20+ years and just switched to a mallet 2ish years ago and I don't see myself going back.

Everybody is different, just hit a good amount of balls with both and see which one feels better. Try a few different grips as well.

My preference is face-balanced, mallet with an oversized grip. Also, has to be 32"...

I've always been a mallet guy.

Was never tempted to putt with a blade.

Started played golf with a Zebra putter. Probably still one on the best ever made.

How far can you throw your current one when you get the yips?

In all seriousness, putters are all about the feel in your hand. While I haven’t bought one (yet) every time I pick up the Lab putters I make absolutely everything in the store, it just feels right.

My current mallet putter I’m very streaky with, when it starts missing I break out my old 8802 blade. Playing with it for a day or two always gets me back on track.

Just switched over from a blade to a mid-mallet. So not going full mallet just yet.

I have two putters I'm torn on. Mizuno M3 which is face balanced and Cleveland HB Soft 5 which has a slight toe hang. Frankly, I love both of them and putting very well with each. I can't decide which so I'm keeping both.

Maybe a mid-mallet is a good introduction. Try the two above but also look into an Odyssey Rossie. That was on my list too but I wanted a milled putter, not an insert.

This is the way. I’ve got a Rossie with a bigger grip, but not huge. Love it. I’m not the greatest with lines, but I always seem to do fine with speed compared to when I had a blade.

This isn't an equipment pitch but you need to go test Cleveland Frontline (blade/mallet putters with weight in the front so feels like blade) and/or TM Spyder GT Max - adjustable weights depending on speed of greens.

TM GT Max is legit. Feels much better than the other Spider lines. Unfortunately, they went full retard on price
