Usually try to watch during the playoffs. So much intensity. Even when there’s long stretches without scoring there’s still constant action that keeps you constantly following the puck. Not to mention, everything those guys do is on ice skates. The casual observer takes that for granted. So much fun to watch…real athletes.

I wish I could have gotten the chance to play it growing up.

I know nothing about it but I’m in awe whenever I see it on tv. shite I can’t even keep up with the puck.

Anyone who gives it a chance loves it. People who don't are just not exposed to the quality NHL product.

Took my wife (no pics) the FL/NY Game 3 for her first NHL game. She had only been to BR Kingfish games. She said she wants to go back. The projections on the ice are truly insane and make the game so cool to attend for pregame.

The NHL playoffs are the best in sports. Constant action and very few commercials, and the crowds go nuts….

I’ve never really watched it until a week or two ago and now if I’m not busy that’s what I’m watching. I don’t know much about what’s happening but it’s entertaining. The atmosphere seems awesome. My 7 and 2 year old even sit and watch sometimes.

Prior to HD and large flat screens, tv resolutions made it impossible to see the puck on your 27” console TV from across the room. Hockey in 1987 just looked like a bunch of dudes skating around.

Meanshile the NBA was coming on the scene with the exact same season as the NHL. Since most American kids have better access to pavement than large flat sheets of ice, basketball is just “easier” to watch for most.

Thought this until last night's Stars game, my 5th NHL playoff game in person, but it nearly put me to sleep. And I love NHL playoff hockey.

I grew up an Oilers (and then Kings, once Gretzky was traded) fan in Pittsburgh. I think I was the only person in the whole damn town who wasn't a Pens fan. I still think it's the most fun to play, and most entertaining to watch.

The NHL has the most exciting playoffs of any major pro sport

The NBA has the most boring playoffs of any major pro sport

And they go on at the same time every year

Almost every kid played playground basketball or was exposed to basketball in some form or fashion across the country.

Hockey is very expensive to play and most of the country has no access to skating or hockey.

It makes sense that hockey would have a smaller following just given that a large portion of the country has never been exposed to it.

I played junior hockey for 2 years as a kid and it was my favorite sport to play hands down. That is just not true for the vast majority of the US population.

It’s just exposure to it. That’s all. But they’ve finally fixed that problem.

If you have ESPN+, you can watch every single out of market NHL game. The whole season. Any team but the local one, which you can catch locally anyhow. It’s the best deal in sports if you subscribe to ESPN+… which many do for college baseball and basketball. For me…it’s just a free bonus.

So you can follow a team all year long, and watch an entertaining sport with the least amount of bullshite of the major sports. I wasn’t a hockey fan two years ago. Now it’s my #1 sport.
