i recently had palisades zoysia installed at my house (in BR) and am wondering what height cut is best for that grass. Lots of differing opinions on the internet but not much specific to our area from what I have read. I have been cutting at 3" but would like to cut a little lower if that won't hurt anything. Used to not care too much but after the cost of the new sod, I am beginning to take interest! Thanks for any advice.

1.5 to 2.5” should do fine.

People take Zoysia lower too, but that’s a lot of work.
Here it is at .75”

I have mine at 2". It is a good height for my yard that hides most of the uneven spots and stays nice and plush under foot.

I’m having empire zoysia installed next week. What are you mowing with to get that low?

That’s from the lawn forum.
I’m sure they’re using a gas powered reel mower. Typically $1,500 to start if new.

Ive put down a few of pieces this year to see how it holds in shade and sun, im extremely happy right now. Waiting to do the whole front yard. Glad to see the picture of it holding up well in full sun in case i cut down trees.

I cut it right now about 2in.

I cut my Palisade at 2-1/4" anything lower than that with the heat it starts getting a burnt look to it.

I cut at 2.5". I cut at 3" last year which was the first year and it filled in nicely. You'll love walking on it barefooted after it gets established. Like walking on a cloud.

My empire zoysia square by my pool area. Put in December …top dress with sand in march ..almost filled back in. Cutting low with Honda rotary probably 1.5”?

May go to reel mower next, need to top dress again to get it smooth enough for that.

Damn dog pee spots ugh.

I keep mine at several different heights. Front is 5/8”. Back I use an electric rotary on lowest setting so probably a little over an inch and the area I keep my dogs one notch up so 2” or so. I find the higher setting keeps the burn areas looking better.

I cut my Palisades at 2.5 and bump it up to 3 when it was hot as hell like last summer. Seems like in my yard my Palisades doesn’t like to be cut too terribly low, yet I routinely read cut the stuff lower than what I do. I think the grass tells you what it likes because my backyard is Tifway 419 and it seems to prefer not to be cut too terribly short either.
