What do you all make of this story about Jaden suing UF for directly promising money and then never enrolling because the money never showed up? Is college football basically just the NFL now without agreed upon norms for payments and no cap salaries? Just ridiculous to me to see how out of hand this has gotten from “companies can sponsor players”… I miss old college football, can we just go back to 2019 when the world made sense?

ESPN article

quote:

Former University of Florida football recruit Jaden Rashada is suing coach Billy Napier, along with a big-time Gator booster and others, claiming they defrauded him out of millions of dollars by backing out of a promised $13.85 million agreement after the quarterback had turned down offers tied to other programs. The lawsuit filed Tuesday includes an allegation that Rashada signed his national letter of intent to Florida on Dec. 21, 2022, less than an hour after Napier promised the player's father a $1 million "partial payment" that day upon signing. Rashada never received the $1 million, and the boosters never fulfilled the deal, the lawsuit states.

quote:

"Sadly, unethical and illegal tactics like this are more and more commonplace in the Wild West that is today's college football landscape," the lawsuit states. "As the first scholar-athlete to take a stand against such egregious behavior by adults who should know better, Jaden seeks to hold Defendants accountable for their actions and to expose the unchecked abuse of power that they shamelessly wielded."

quote:

By signing with Florida, Rashada turned away from a prior commitment to the University of Miami and a promise there of $9.5 million, the lawsuit states, which is a portion of the damages Rashada is claiming. It alleges several counts pertaining to fraud, negligence and interference with a business contract.

He realizes he won’t make the League, and wants that payout. Entitlement runs heavy in my generation. 13 million dollars for a CFB player, who has never played a down of CFB?

It’s hilarious that the kid is literally directly benefiting from “the Wild West”. They are still acting like the athletes are the victims

Kinda hope he wins, honestly.

Big time college programs having to shell out 8 figures for players that never even suited up for them would be a great way to end this scam.

Sounds like this is his problem, he won’t win this case. That’s what you get for being greedy

Sad part is I'm 99% sure this his parents doing, the kid might have wanted to move past this. Regardless they aren't going to win this case. Nobody wants to say it but alot of these parents are the problem.

I'm not a lawyer, but have bought and sold a lot of companies over my career. But we'd need to see what they all signed/executed to know the legitimacy of the lawsuit

If Rashada never signed a contract, I don't see how he has any legal recourse.

Definitely shitty for a coach/program to promise a number and not deliver but without anything official, how do you prove that they owe him anything.
