All these psychological phrases get overused, which causes a reaction to make fun of the phrase and the concept by the cool OT kids.
At what point does persuasion turn to manipulation? I'd say when one party starts to disagree and needs to weaponize a meaningless word as a defense against logic and reasoning.

I use it in this sense only:
If I hear it out in the wild, I know it's some wimpy soyboy bullshite. I don't know what it means nor am I interested in ever finding out.

believe it’s a term women use bc most can’t stand to be wrong and don’t won’t men correcting and or debating them when they know the male count part has a valid point.
It's a term lazy, spoiled, chronically online people use to cope when someone disagrees with them or holds them accountable. I've never heard this term used in real life amongst normal people.

It is just lying. Which is always bad. So I call it lying
If told the same lie enough one can easily begin to believe it. Pretty soon, after a year of hearing someone say “ you don’t love me. You never loved me. What’s wrong with you that I don’t feel loved” and having this lie attributed to you, you understand the game . Or you internalize the lie and become that person’s psychological servant. But yes a LIE is at the core of all gaslighting. At its most malevolent, say a boss or a spouse who is a grandiose narcissist it can begin to feel almost violent. Especially if you don’t understand what you are experiencing.

Another one. You’re ignorant, and you have no intention of even trying to remedy that ignorance.

Wrong again. Nobody likes to be wrong. Both men and women have been using it lately BUT they are mostly using it incorrectly which is the actual thing you should be annoyed at.

The origin of the term is the 1938 British thriller play Gas Light by Patrick Hamilton, which provided the source material for the 1940 British film, Gaslight. The film was then remade in 1944 in America – also as Gaslight – and it is this film which has since become the primary reference point for the term.[4][5][6] Set among London's elite during the Victorian era, it portrays a seemingly genteel husband using lies and manipulation to isolate his heiress wife and persuade her that she is mentally unwell so that he can steal from her.[7] The term "gaslighting" itself is neither in the screenplay nor mentioned in either the films or the play in any context. In the story, the husband secretly dims and brightens the indoor gas-powered lighting but insists his wife is imagining it, making her think she is going insane.

It's not just lying, it's manipulation meant to get the target to question themselves
Yes, over a long period of time to get the a user what they want.
It's a legit thing. And awful.

spent decades being “ gaslit “. Call it want you want, it’s a tactic. Narcissists specialize in it. If you don’t recognize it, it can destroy you. I can spot it now, have recently, and I run with a quickness.
