re: Which win was a bigger deal in Louisiana? 2003 National Championship or Super Bowl XLIV?

I felt like I was going to throw up during the LSU national title game, but I cried after the Super Bowl. So I have to say the Saints.
And winning the Lombardi against the best QB in the NFL who just also happens to be from Louisiana is the icing.

I like how you ridiculed him for saying “not close” and then proceeded to do the same exact thing

The Saints really is the only right answer
you mean the team that couldn't even muster selling out a full season until 2006?
a bunch of "lifelong" Saints fans materialized out of nowhere after Katrina.
It wasn't unusual to need Entergy (or someone like that) to purchase a big chunk of remaining tickets late in the week just to lift the TV blackout.
yes, the Curley years was a bad attendance stretch for LSU.
but before and after that Death Valley has easily put the Dome to shame in both numbers and atmosphere.
that should answer the question.

Was at LSU in 2003 and lived in New Orleans during the 2009 season.
Saints. Not even close.

I would hope, college tickets are cheaper

The Saints.
The entire season from week 1 blowing out Detroit was a surreal ride.
I've never seen people in the state so united about one thing.

My vote goes to the 2003 National Championship won by Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse Orange at the Final Four in the Super Dome.

maybe if you don’t count the “tradition fund” as part of the ticket price for LSU

Lsu absolutely outdraws the saints in both viewership and attendance in the state of Louisiana. Trying to argue otherwise is silly

Depends on which part of Louisiana you ask. People in the NOLA area care much more about the Saints than LSU while people in the BR area generally care more about LSU. I'm not sure about SW LA or North LA
North LA was mostly Cowboys fans before 2009

state wide? prolly lsu.

Was a huge deal in BR too. Everyone was out partying all day.

Saints all day long. To me and those around me it isn't particularly close either.

What’s more popular isn’t the point. What is a bigger deal, a bigger draw, whatever is the question being asked. Nothing in American sports tops the Super Bowl.

When the Saints won, people just randomly started celebrating in neighborhood streets.

I cared more about LSU winning Nattys. Still do, but it's getting to the point of them being more alike every day with NIL.I've never cared about the Saints the way I cared about LSU. With pro teams you're just bringing in players and paying them to play for your team. I've never felt connected to a Saints player the way I did to LSU guys. The only star player the Saints had during my childhood was Archie Manning, who I'd Archie Who'ed when he was at Ole Miss. Before Archie I remember an over the hill Billy Kilmer playing QB for the Saints.
Hokie Gajan was my favorite Saints player as a kid. He played at LSU.The Saints sucked for so long and never made the playoffs. Because of their offenses, I pulled for the Hank Stram Chiefs and the 60's and the Don Coryell Chargers in the 80's.
When LSU was bad in the early 90's I didn't pull for another college team. I stuck with my Curley Hallman led Tigers. I didn't stick with Curley.. I made a "Fire Curley Early" poster for the Alabama game the year he was fired (1994), but didn't take it into the stadium because it rained.
A Saints loss never bothered me like LSU losses do. My dad never cared about the Saints so I didn't grow up thinking I had to love them like I did with LSU.
While LSU was tearing up the College Baseball world in the 90's, I either prayed for an LSU College Football Natty, and said I didn't care if we never won another Baseball Natty, or I made a deal with the devil for LSU to win a couple of them, and not win as much in baseball. Whatever it was, I wished for those results, to somebody.
That's how much LSU Football means to me.

I have always known that about you. LSU all the way. I remember watching the 71 game against ND while living in michigan. It was n ABC and the place was crazy. Became an lsu fan that night. 11 years old…..

Saints because the Katrina angle

Though the LSU win felt like it was their first NC, the tigers have been up in the polls very often, and felt like a play or two would of won us a NC. The Saints on the other hand, have been a pos for most of their existence. Been though the whole ordeal since inception. The SB win was way bigger, not only for Louisiana, but for Ms., Ala. and some parts of Fl, if not all the world.
