It pops up frequently on the board, the Patriot Act, the reconfirming vote on the Patriot Act.....the dreaded ominous, omnipotent PAAAAATRIOT ACT.
All it did was put legal lipstick on what was already happening.
You think all those buildings filled with banks and banks of hard drives are all storing Russian conversations, prior to the dreaded ACT?
Ah the world would be such a better place without the dreaded act. There would have been no russian collusion, no impeachments, no lawfare, no blackmailing of who knows how many individuals. There would be no NSA, FBI, CIA.

At least before the Patriot Act it was illegal.

You’re on a suicide mission this morning I see. You about to receive a volley of nucular missiles. Metaphorically speaking of course. No actual real missiles. And you know what? I’m gonna back you on this. I stand shoulder to shoulder with you, sergeant major. The reason for that is simple: because you’re exactly correct, no matter what anyone says.

Even at the time, even with all the terrorist mooslims hiding behind every corner and under each rock, I knew there was no real need for the Patriot Act. We were all sold a lie, just like how Saddam was 'stockpiling' WMD. Every massive Gov program or act is sold to the people on a lie. Whether it's the Patriot Act, ObamaCare or covid *vaccines.
Does no one remember Enemy of the State? Came out in 1998?
*There is no covid vaccine.

So Dubya shoved dynamite in a hole and the resulting crater is ok because there was already a hole?
Rail against all of it. Government overreach should be called out under every name.

This was the most important thing you had to share today?

This reeks of a W Bush simp thread.
Go read Body of Secrets and get back to me to know what the NSA’s real mission was pre-9/11.

NSA ran multiple listening post in West Virginia using Cray computers to listen to every phone call in the US east of the Mississippi. They had a similar setup in the Rockies for the west coast. It started with targeted phones and had real people listen but upgraded over the years as technology advances allowed the system to automate and record based on keywords instead of everything.
Government owns the inter webs with all traffic going through it’s servers, it can filter and monitor what it wants. The saving grace is volume that can’t be sorted fast enough.
All the Patriot Act did was allow some of that to be admissible in court.
There was a stink in the community when the NSA newsletter published the name of one of the west Va sites when recognizing a soldier assigned to the site. Dad was still at Ft Lee at the time so it was most likely in 1984/1985. And YES the NSA put out a news letter. It always amazes me that such organizations have logos and newsletters, and give out plaques with logos on them.

Has any citizen challenged the patriot act on 4th amendment grounds? To me, it seems unconstitutional on its face.

“National security” trumps everything

This. We The People are the targets of factions in our government who effectively amount to the Soviet politburo. A self-sufficient, liberty-minded armed citizenry is what keeps the Deep State politburo up at night.
The FBI, CIA, NSA, DEA, ATF, and every other lesser-known alphabet agency needs to be scattered to the winds...

Patriot Act was awful and unconstitutional and it has brought massive escalation to the violations of everyone's rights. You may think the NSA was doing stuff before, but not even remotely close to what started with the Patriot Act. They have filled and built new data warehouses in recent years. That did not take place in the years prior to the Patriot Act.

Link ONE positive post I’ve ever made about Obama. Just one. Should be easy if you aren’t just talking out your arse, right?

I mean, don’t you think if the NSA is that nefarious, which I’m not saying they aren’t, they would pretty much just dip into whatever they want, FISA or not?

“National security” at the moment is of it's highest risk with the current government. Damone is a fool.
