Baseball is pretty hard.

It’s not uncommon for 30 year old athletes to start to decline. Statistically, mid to late 20’s is when they reach their peak.

He is probably not wanting to be there anymore in Houston. Mind isn't there.

If only we had stats to definitely prove he's stared slow his whole career...
... OH WAIT!

Have you seen Paul Goldschmidt’s numbers so far this season?
He’s batting.195

For whatever reason, his timing appears way off. Could be anything - picking up the ball, injury we don’t know about or declining skills. Obviously his power numbers, including percentage of hard hit balls, are way down.
He’s trying to drive a lot of pitches on the outer third pull side and simply can’t. He’s popping out a lot or making weak contact. He can’t barrel up those pitches. Needs to go oppo more and worry less about pull side HR power - at least until he figures things out with his swing.
He is a notorious slow starter, and that might have something to do with it. However, he also has a history of injuries and has played a lot more baseball than most major leaguers the last seven years. Maybe it’s all finally catching up. Regardless, it comes at a bad time for him, because there’s no way any team is going to give him the contract Scott Boras was looking for, given his performance so far this year.

I think the recent uptick in pitch velocity across the majors is giving him problems.

He gained 20 lbs and is pressing in a contract year. Also focused on outside businesses.

Astros always start slow. They will still win the West and currently still have the 5 best World Series odds

This is the right answer
Professional hitters that go with the pitch don't get the big contracts unless they have power to all fields, which Bregman does not.
Much easier to pitch to a guy when he's trying to hit the ball to one field.

It's harder when ur not cheating

They have 12 wins & they’re 8 games back in the West. They’ve got to start going at some point.
2-4 start to the month of May isn’t great

This team has been a sub .500 team since last over the period of games going back to last June. They’re not that good at this point. It’s a flawed team. It’s not the team from 2017-22.
