We had a horse growing up. It ended up being the 2nd oldest horse in ascension parish. Now near the end she was gaunt, but well fed, well taken care of, teeth filed, regularly seen by vet. Just...old. Nearly 40 I think. Horses typically live 25-30 years.
I bought a few round bails of hay from either you, your dad, or your grandfather roughly 15 years ago.
None of them were pirates so I assume to be a relative.
But y'all had a sign on a tree as well if I remember right

Yep. Really anything down past Lockport.
For our Houma friends I would accept down the bayou if the are talking about Dulac.

Thibodaux might as well be in Ohio.
I've made the joke about anyone north of 10 being a yankee for years.
This dude comes along and says north of 90.

Trashy white people writing what amounts to twitter/x posts on cardboard in front of their house/on their cars was a solid form of entertainment for me in the mid 2000's in north LA. Glad to see it's still alive.
I was home for Christmas last year and took my wife and kids down highway 4 between Winnsboro and Columbia. There used to be a guy that lived at the halfway point that put a sign out that said something like "gawn 2 town". I was going to point it out to them, but it was long gone. Oh the good ole days.

What’s a staving horse?
I swear I am so ignorant regarding the language of ignorance I actually looked up staving horse thinking it was an actual medical condition, it sounded like it to me...
Just about the time I hit enter on my google search I realized the horse just looked like it was starving. I guess Pat Sajek was also charging for consonants that day.

Traditionally, "down the bye" is a reference to Bayou Lafourche.
Below Houma we have five “down the bayou’s “.
Bayou Black , Bayou DuLarge, Bayou Grand Caillou , Bayou Little Caillou, Bayou Terrebone.

I consider Thibodaux, Morgan city and Houma all part of bayou country.

As a thibodaux resident, a good bit of people can't pronounce my last name and it's pretty damn common DTB.
Thibodaux isn't bayou country
Chackbay, Choctaw and bayou boeuf is

Thibodaux isn’t down da bayou. It’s on da bayou, as in Harvard on da bayou.
It is considered up da bayou, as in an up da bayou redbird.
Anything down hwy 1 from thibodaux is down da bayou.
I’ll give anything heading towards point aux chenes, Dulac, montegut, dularge and cocodrie down da bayou credit as well.

I consider Up da bayou and down da bayou as directions.
When you get to highway 90 turn down da bayou and you will get to Grand Isle.

"Down Da Bayou" is exclusively 985.
Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish will stab anyone in 337 and not even think twice about it.
