The non tax payer MLE this year is $12.89 million.

If they don’t at least offer that to Jonas then they are nuts because I don’t see how we upgrade. There’s few really elite C in the NBA now and the ones that have them aren’t giving them up. Jonas isn’t in that category but he’s in the one right below it. Whether he would take that is another thing but it’s only a $2.1 million pay cut from his salary last year. I’m all for finding an athletic rim protector but I just don’t see how you find a starter for that spot. Claxton is going to get a massive offer to stay in Brooklyn and Hartenstein is going to be fielding many offers on the open market. I also wonder what the market for Naji will be. I figure somewhere in the $7-12 million annually. I’d love him back for around $8 million a year if we could possibly afford it. Unfortunately I think the Lakers see JV as the perfect way to get pussy Toni back to playing the 4 like he wants.

If we give full NTPMLE to Jonas then we have no money left under the tax line and can’t sign anyone else after our draft pick. We are sitting around 16 million under the tax line currently for next season

He hasn't had a salary that low since his rookie contract. This will probably be his final contract, I'll be surprised if he makes thaylt much less than what's he's making now.

I think he’d take a reduction to $12.5 million if he got it for 3 years. That would secure him financially as his sizable NBA contract. He’s worth the $15 million we paid him though. That’s why I think it’s time to cross that 1st tax line if we get the chance to help the team be better. I like the squad we had this year, the ones staying I would want every one of them working on shooting the 3 this offseason.

Come on now. We are not giving JV 3 years. That's crazy talk.

Not sure why you got downvoted. Unfortunately, I don't think it matters. Willie basically guaranteed Jonas is gone with his trash lineups. Why would Jonas come back to watch Larry struggle when he can go rack up double-doubles for half the league, who can also give him the MLE?
We had Jonas on a discount this year, but our coach outsmarted himself and wasted a lot of it.

As much as I like jv, he's a dinosaur in the playoffs.
He's a regular season 20mpg guy who can help win you a few games, but he gets ran off the court (like Cj does) in the playoffs.
We can't have 40mil+ invested into that.

I think this is pretty faulty thinking. A "dinosaur" like Jonas is hugely important to any shot we have against the top 3 seeds in the west. Jonas was the best thing we had going for us in round 1, yet Willie inexplicably gave Chet a reprieve. Nuggets? Better have a dinosaur to bang with Joker for 30+ minutes. Minny? Gotta have a dinosaur to counter Gobert. Hell, Jonas isn't a terrible matchup for KAT.

Jonas’ game ages well. His game isn’t built on his foot speed as it is offensive game and his ability to dominate on the glass. He’s not a 30 mpg guy but he can give you 22-25 mpg of great play and he’s available every night. He needs someone better than Larry as his primary backup though.

His games doesn't age well at all for Willie Green and this team.. If we're going to pay someone starting caliber money, they need to be able to close games with the starting 5. JV's minutes has been reduced every season since he's been here. You can bet your arse Green will look for more reasons to reduce his minutes if we retain him.
He's a quality player for someone. It's just not going to be with the Pelicans especially at that salary and Green as the coach.

Rob Pelinka isn't that stupid. The Lakers already get absolutely destroyed by teams with quick guards, like the Kings. Adding JV at the five would only compound that problem. Davis at PF really doesn't work in today's NBA, which is why the Lakers moved him to C, whether he liked it or not.
Seriously, I'm not sure what NBA team would actually want JV to come start for them. As an NBA starter, I think he's done.

pretty sure we don’t need the MLE to resign JV.

We have his bird rights, we can just sign him and it counts towards the team's total salary amount but not any of the exceptions, so we'd still have the $13mil MLE to sign a free agent.

We don’t, but we also don’t have the money underneath the tax to pay JV and also use the NTPMLE without making a lopsided trade to move off some salary.
The most we will have available to us if we re-sign JV would be the taxpayer MLE at around 5 million

Which is why a trade of BI for Sexton or Murray helps us have more money under the tax to use.

My favorite trade to save money would be BI to Detroit for Duren and their 1st.
That move would have us around 60 million under the tax, with the ability to use the full 12 million NTMLE AND we would also get a 36 million dollar TPE.
With a TPE that large we could take in just about anyone we would want, plus we still have plenty of space to give Naji a raise and Jose a raise.

I don’t think JV would take $20 million/ year to play for that jackass.

I'd rather give that to Isaiah Hartenstein.
Knicke need to pay OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa, so they can't pay as much in MLE as the Pel's.
Plus the Pels can offer Hartenstein a starting role.
Once Mitchell Robinson is fully back from his injury he will be their starter.

Love Jonas, but he's not the answer. We already have the Minny beater.

I been saying it for a while now, BI and Nance to the Pistons for Duran and Thompson, plus their 1st in 2025 and 2027.
This gives you a lot of flexibility and allow Murphy to start and further develop his game.
With this years' first round pick I would look for a pg.
