Good. I fully support the peoples rights to secede from shitty governments.
Baton Rouge has operated like a poorly run whore house for the past 30 years and it's finally biting them in the arse. Citizens of BR have voted for this level of incompetence and get to reap the rewards. They FAFO'd

Ah, so here we go. Why should my local tax dollars be grabbed and spent on you and to prop up NBR? The Federal Government is doing enough reallocation of wealth, without BroomHilda piling on.

These politicians don't give a shite about crime or fostering a business-friendly environment but then throw a fit when the productive members of society leave.

They should respond with their own demands

The St. George plan poses significant risks to our education system, threatens the continuity of critical programs, and challenges community representation. The creation of a new municipality introduces considerable uncertainty around funding allocation for our schools, jeopardizing the cornerstone of our community’s future: education.
I don’t live there, don’t have any knowledge of the situation, and am only assuming, but I’m going to guess test scores and achievement of black students is already low?
Now they’re worried their scores/achievement will drop further with decreased funding?
And no one in that community will honestly say what the issues are…just blame everything on racist evil rich whitey?
That pretty much cover it?

Well, there will be less tax money coming in, that’s true.
But that’s also in return a chunk of population that won’t require tax money expenditures, correct?
Shouldn’t it somewhat balance out?

Democrats hate white people until they need us for our taxes, innovation, neighborhoods and schools.
“Alright. What have the white people done for us other than pay taxes, innovation, neighborhoods, schools, and their organizational skills?”

It SHOULD balance out, if services/spending provided by the city-parish government to the newly formed St. George were in line with the amount of money they were contributing. However, that isn't the case, and is the reason that this incorporation has been fought tooth and nail. This is also the reason why the NAACP has their panties in a bunch, and is crying racism because the largely white population of St. George doesn't have to subsidize the largely black Baton Rouge proper as it has previously.
The LA Supreme Court stated that the newly formed city should run with a surplus of roughly $15M year 1, so you can reasonably say this area has been shortchanged by nearly 30% of their tax revenue contributed.

Good. BE a problem. Be a huge, pain in the arse problem. That's exactly what people like the ones who are advocates of St. George need to be, and ya'll/we are going to have to be an even bigger problem going into the future to see ourselves out of this mess, because the problem isn't going to get any better before it gets worse.
This country, let alone this world, is a powder keg in every sense of the word not seen in our lifetime since World War 2. It's time to stop giving a frick what the people who hate us think and say about us. Thankfully, that exact thing is aggregating every morning when the tens of millions of working, taxpaying, peace-loving men roll out of our beds to start another day, and be greeted yet again with the news that we are still the problem, and only taxes will fix it.
The right people are fricking around with the wrong ones, and they're going to find out what the business is. People are sick of the shite, and St. George is today's shining example of that.
Power to the Louisianian People.

It's why the word, "racist" shouldn't have any hold on any white people with any sense of self-preservation. The word is, quite literally, circa 2024, meaningless.
As I explained it to my 14 year old, who in 6th grade had a run-in with racist little shits that tried to make her feel guilty for being white.
1. You owe no one. Not a thing. You don't even own me or your mom. I hope that you are a good enough person to help people, but you do it for your reasons. You never give up control of your own emotions to those that will want to exploit you.
2. Always take calls of "racism" with a grain of salt. "Racist" is the scarlet letter of the 21st century. It is one of the only accusations in which the burden of proof falls on the accused. Even if you successfully defend yourself, you are still given a stigma. You are accused of trying too hard to defend your actions. Guilty conscience and such.

Why? St. George will still remain in East Baton Rouge parish. And their taxes will still contribute to Parish wide expenditures.
A MUCH bigger detriment to the rest of the parish would be if the taxpayers who live in St. George simply decide to leave the parish. Then, NONE of their tax dollars would be going directly to the parish.
The City of BR had a pretty sweet deal. They were getting mailbox money from people living outside the city to help pay for strictly city services. And frankly, the people living outside the city were ok with that arrangement for years! All they wanted was their own school system. But the bozo's with zero foresight couldn't relent on that so they, led in part by the mayor, told those folks to make their own city...so they have

That's not at all what's happening. This area has never been part of Baton Rouge and the leadership of Baton Rouge has actively avoided incorporating the area for decades because it allowed them to redistribute funds more easily.

How is that? StG will still pay parish taxes and parish-wide expenditures.
Now, if you are complaining that StG will no longer be subsidizing the City of Baton Rouge, that's just tough. The City of BR isn't entitled to have outside area fund city-only services.
ETA: Hopefully this whole ordeal brings the end of the consolidated government. It makes no sense (to the extent it ever did) now that there are two large municipalities in EBR, and more than half of the population does not live in the City of BR proper.

It’s not like I was getting free shite in the city of BR. My house is worth well over $75K and I pay my taxes and extra fees (like to Entergy) for living in the city where I do not use a lot of the services.
I just don’t see how St George is going to be a utopia when there are undesirable properties & residents already living there.

I believe most of us didn’t really know how it all worked. We didn’t really until the debate over SG began and people became educated.
Once it was known that a large percentage of the sales taxes collected were being spent to maintain city services and not in SG we became upset.
After all we could see a decline everywhere. Trash along roadways, ditches not maintained, roads not maintained or striped, and an overall malaise even though our population was expanding.
