I haven't seen a travel in the NBA called in years. For awhile palming the basketball was a big thing but they've definitely abandoned that.

Simple. The only way you can get called for traveling is if you take about 6+ steps. Anything else is fair game.

All NBA players are ranked on a 1 to 5 star basis. Your "star" rating determines the number of steps you can take while carrying the ball. If you are touched while carrying the ball, you must chose being able to flail around on the ground like you've been shot in the gut or the step count starts over. If you are one of the elite 5+ star players, you can begin your flailing after you attempt your shot in order to require the referee to call a foul and award free throws.

thats easy, if you are a big name star you can take 12-15 steps without dribbling the ball

if you are a nobody bench warmer they call it correctly

this also applies to most all of the rules in many cases

I do think there's an element to where if it does not give the offensive player an advantage that they won't whistle the violation even if it's obvious.
