We do well but not over 400k, barely 300 - standard deduction. Wife and I are straight W2 employees. Theres nothing to look at, I guess the 80 bazillion new IRS employees need something to do.

Update - so they owe us 7k, I got a follow up letter today, they arent disputing anything but want us to prove our W2's are real with paystubs and earmings documentation

What a clown show, they basically want to rinse our money another 2-3 months.

this is exactly what it is

we got a letter as well, asking for the same 1099-r forms we already electronically filed. we are getting a refund and they arent happy about it

i would guess its 99.99999999% only republicans getting these letters

I have a feeling I’ll be getting that same letter.

Never been audited even when I owned a commercial property.

It’s coming. Like you, I can give the new IRS fools some work to do as we are in almost the exact position you described.

What a joke.

Between federal, state, local, property and sales taxes these MFERS take half our money. Do they want more? We dont have any writeoffs.

Said we are in a 90 day review and will be holding return funds, that if we think we made a mistake we can file an amended return. A middle schooler could do our taxes.

Did you itemize? Get aggressive on charitable deductions? If not, I cannot understand why you would get audited. Just a complete waste of money be the service.

I gave the IRS $2500 alone on one pay check this month already. With Social security and state taxes I feel violated.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a W-2 family taking the standard deduction getting a 90 day review. It must be so rare that I don’t even know if the Service pays interest on the 90 days of withheld refund. I’ve done about 5 minutes of research and cant find anything. They will charge you if you underreported, but in my shirt 5 minute search can’t find the opposite answer.

I paid them this year. But if I was owed I would look it up further. If it’s a no, this is their new strategy. Keep 3 months of refunds to save the interest.

I loathe the IRS, but this seems really strange. Usually they pay interest just like we do. Just didn’t find anything on point. It’s a strange situation.
