Are we looking at a 3-14 type of season if we don’t nail this draft?

Our LT James Hurst just retired, RT Ryan Ramcyk has a degenerative knee injury and is almost finished, Andrus Peat is injury-prone/old, Derek Carr is not meeting expectations, Michael Thomas is finished and has been cut, Cam Jordan is old and declining quickly, DeMario Davis is old and declining quickly, we lost most of our good DTs last offseason, Marshon Lattimore seems unhappy and might be traded soon, etc., etc.
To make things worse, our salary cap issues have tied our hands in free agency and forced use to shop in the clearance bin. I think we’re looking at a 3-14 Chicago Bears or Carolina Panthers type of season if we fail with this draft. This team needs an injection of talent in a hurry.

I wish.
We will be somewhere be in the 7-8 win territory as always despite the brutal schedule

hopefully
this team needs a hard reset so freaking bad
likely will be too mediocre to make a difference tho

Agreed. Time to move past the Payton era. Some of the old vestiges are still there. New players, new staff, get rid of that get crunk crap.

You’re looking at that kind of season if even we nail the draft. Even we if get one Tackle nailed down, we still have holes at LG and RT/LT. despite getting Chase Young, pass rush could still be problematic. Demario and TM7 could fall off a cliff at any moment. Our interior, outside of Bresee, is meh and a few injuries away from a disaster.
But ultimately, all it takes is one missed assignment and Carr is done for the year. Then you’re looking at Haener or fricking Nathan Peterman. It wouldn’t matter if you nailed every pick in this year’s draft, you ain’t winning shite with Haener or Peterman. I still don’t think we get that lucky and end up with 6-7 wins and the back end of the top 10 in the NFL Draft next year

2 top 45 picks, aside from QB, are never going to be the difference between a 3-14 and a 9-8 season. Just not how the sport works.
I can't say for sure how important this draft is for win totals this season, but in the long term building of the team, it is absolutely essential we come out of this draft with 2-3 long term starters that are on cost controlled rookie contracts. If that doesn't happen, the bottom will fall out of this team in the not too distant future. Cannot afford another failure draft with the team in the state it's currently in.

Yeah. I think right now this is the worst roster the Saints have fielded in 15-20 years. We definitely need to hit the ball out of the park in this draft and not trade all of our picks away to move up like 5 spots.

We need this to happen for 2-3 years.
I would rather that than another 9-9 or 8-9 type of season and barely missing playoffs.
We are closer to 3-14 than 11-6.

Is this true?

No, what they do after the draft will dictate how the season comes together. Based on where the team currently picks, you should be able to rely on 2 starters this year if they hit in the 1st & 2nd round. Too many holes to assume 2 guys coming in will fix everything.
Those 5th and later guys should be expected to be backup players and/or ST guys. You hope to land a diamond in the rough, but you don't go into the draft expecting anything of value from those picks.

2021 was probably the worst pro roster I can remember.

Nope. It'll be 6-11, 7-10 kinda season. Just enough to give us hope at times but ultimately accomplishes nothing.

I mean we have 2 picks where the picks are expected to start or contribute greatly as a rookie.
We may move some of the 5th and beyond picks but it’s likely not going to yield much.
We’re way more than 2 players away from a massive difference.

The "Goldilocks Zone" is just barely losing enough games to miss the playoffs and winning enough games to screw the Saints draft position. In recent years, the Saints have this ratio down to an art form.

I would argue that a lot of franchises are just mediocre these days in the NFL and the Saints fall in that category until proven otherwise.

Really, didn't he make the Pro Bowl last year? And undoubtedly the biggest (and one of the few) playmakers on the D last year. I do agree with you about the rest

He’s very old now and his performance will fall off a cliff anytime now. Same with Cam Jordan unfortunately
