Not sure how I feel about this to be honest. I just keep imagining my teachers in elementary school owning or attempting to use a gun. I don’t think it would do a damn thing and I doubt any of those teachers would have the balls to pull a trigger, ever, and even if they did, to use it remotely accurately in a high pressure situation? Impossible.

It’s because the kids in Memphis are armed and “be on demon time!”

I understand that concern.....but if there is a gunman opening fire in a school and a teacher is too scared to pull the trigger, then it won't really make any difference at all if they had a gun or not. The outcome will likely be the same. I'd rather give the opportunity for a teacher to be able to protect students than not at all.
And school shooters are cowards. Guaranteed they tuck and run if someone starts returning fire at them.

It’s not like they are issuing guns to English Lit teachers. But there are plenty of teachers that served in military and/or have been trained in gun safety.
I would challenge you to spend a day in a public Memphis High School.

The idea that the first person you encounter at a school can fire back is going to give these psychos pause because they're looking for infamy...not getting snuffed out before they even get a shot off.

I'm perfectly fine with these law abiding adults who are trained in firearms keeping an eye out.

I had a teacher that was in Nam, He would scream I hate hippies, I hate hippies over and over, 20 times in a row. If you were to make fun of him or break/bend a leg on his chair so he bust his arse. Watch Out. If he had a gun in school I'd take it from him, and go home. If he pulled a gun I'd fight for my life because I'd know he was gunning for me.
I had one teacher say he was going to beat the sh** out of me and telling me about land rights in Texas. I said we live in LA. I then went on the what was then the beginning of the internet, called my x-stepdad about land rights in LA, proved him wrong, then he started swinging at me. Nut Job. This was middle school. My mom showed up and slapped him in the face. Haha. So I don't know about this.

This. It’s about making the crazy ones think twice before walking into schools in TN. If you know the football coach that teaches history is carrying you won’t be able to get very far.
Props to TN for protecting their kids.

Staff who want to carry must go through 40 hours of gun training and have a psychological evaluation.

Not trying to be smart. That doesn't make me feel any better about it. There are most likely plenty of people in gun clubs and such who have shown stable mindsets that should carry. (in the south) 40 hours and a government mental check don't do much for me. Edit: I'm talking teachers not the general public outside of school.

The one concern I have is that 6 ft. 200 pounder just takes a gun away from a teacher. I mean their back is turned and they get ambushed.
Posted on 4/24/24 at 4:55 am to bigjoe1
That's a concern also. It's not as open and shut as some might think.

Throw a hornet's nest among them or start tazing them indiscriminately, I guarantee they would suddenly find life.

Make it concealed carry and anonymous.
I contend that just signs at school saying armed personnel are present would do the trick.

What (D) are not telling you ...
Superintendent, Principal, Police Chief/Sheriff all must sign off before faculty can carry a firearm into school.
If any 1 listed above do not sign off then it will not happen.
Also there are several states that have this policy in place.

They staged a "die in"? How committed to the cause were they? How many actually died? If none, then it was a pretty bad "die in". Can democrats get ANYTHING right?

Mini Al Sharpton is the gift that keeps on giving. Mid 80’s IQ, sports a man bun, and is living his best life pretending it’s 1965.
How’s Fairview treating you? My nephew just bought a house there closes in May. I’ve got 7 more years here in Franklin then I’m building a compound out your way.

Time and time again, we’ve seen that law enforcement, in a mass shooting event, stand back and take a wait-and-see approach, with the ‘see’ being ‘let’s see if he gets tired or shooting people, or runs out of ammo’.
At Virginia Tech, students shoved chairs against the door and retreated to the far corner and balled up. When the kid started shooting them, them tried to retreat further, as if pushing a couple of inches further away would make a difference. He was emboldened by their lack of fighting back. Columbine, same. Uvalde, same. Vegas, same. Parkland, same. When an idiot pulls a gun and starts shooting, there should be a dozen guns shooting back, even if there is some risk in that.
