Clinton shouldn't have been impeached either

If he had an affair, who cares?
It would have been best if he resigned and President Gore take over in 1999, preventing Bush, Obama, 9/11, etc.

It's because he waged his finger to Congress about sexual relations with ML. He lied!

He wasn’t impeached because of the affair; Clinton was impeached due to perjury and obstruction of justice. Then acquitted by the Senate. All per the Constitution.

He should have been impeached for giving our rocket technology to the Chinese in return for millions in donations to the Clinton Foundation. Or maybe that was just a coincidence.

In both cases, there were obfuscations designed to justify that action. Each set of partisans will argue all day that their motives were pure. Hell, the sheep in each party may even believe it. But the motivation in both cases was the same.

i dont entirely disagree, and i dont think either impeachment should have happened, but there was at least a legitimate case against Clinton. he DID commit perjury.

Clinton should have been convicted.
He, and the senate that failed America decriminalized perjury by politicians.

It is the job of Congress to check the Executive Branch. Clinton admitted to perjury; a crime. The Republicans should hold an impeachment when a crime is committed; not find a biased DA, judge and bias jury to hold unfair trails.

Bill Clinton committed perjury. It’s not even debatable. That is a crime. Period. Full stop.
The artful deflection of what he committed perjury over doesn’t matter. He did it. That’s why he got disbarred.
He could have answered the question truthfully under oath and let the cards fall where they may.
If it truly wasn’t a big deal why did he lie about it?

In today's society I don't think it would matter much anymore but at that time, I think the President having an affair would be a big scandal and an opportunity for someone with knowledge of the affair to blackmail the president if he did not admit it. Add to that, he was willing for private citizens to be punished who knew about the affair rather than just admit it.

He wasn't impeached because he had an affair. He was impeached because he committed perjury and saborned perjury during a criminal investigation.

Exactly. He LIED to congress.

Actually there was a technicality. Monica was ruled immaterial to the Paula Jones case.
They could have gotten him on obstruction.

This is exactly correct. I was coming to post the same thing.

On top of everyone already pointing out that’s not why he was impeached nor why the investigation started in the first place, how do you jump to Gore preventing 9/11 or anything else. Gore was a shite leader and a shite person. If anything having him in the job for a year may have resulted in Bush winning in a landslide.

You are wrong, you’d have to understand that the political climate at that time wasn’t nearly as hostile as it is post Obama. The houses actually worked together, hell, this was a time when RGB and Scalia were best of friends, along with multiple other high profile politicians from opposing parties.

Richard Nixon really shouldn’t have been impeached. Seems like most impeachments are over nothing.

Bill Clinton was Impeached for perjury (lying under oath). The Left has tried (and still does, apparently) to re-write history to make it seem like he was Impeached over his affair, but it wasn't about that. He could have perjured himself by claiming as adamantly that he was never Governor of Arkansas and it still would have risen to Impeachment worthy because he was under oath at the time.
Learn history before you post about it.

If I recall it right, he lost his law license as well.
