What was the last autoworker strike settled on? Like netted the worker less than $100/WK gross which probably cost the worker money by barely moving them into the next higher tax bracket.
The fact this has so many upvotes makes me sad. There are no real phase outs at 100k gross, and tax brackets don't work like that.

People are truly clueless. I hear blue collar tradesmen all the time saying they limit the amount of overtime they will work because they lose money due to taxes. Folks simply have no idea how progressive taxation works. They also can't tell you how much they paid in taxes. They will usually tell you how much of a refund they got though....which tells you all you need to know about their financial wisdom...loaning the IRS money over the course of the year without interest is an idiotic undertaking but almost all taxpayers do it....

Hey AugustaDawg, is the Chattanooga plant the only one without a CBA?

Please tell me that you konw only the $$$ in the higher tax bracket is taxed at the higher rate? If the rate goes up at $70,001+ only everything above the $70K is taxed at higher rate.

If it is the only plant, they can do so, even if the closing is driven by anti-union animus.
Chattanooga is the only US VW plant. The last U.S. VW plant was in Pennsylvania and was UAW. It closed in the 80s.

It would be such an interesting study to see how many of the people trashing the workers of Chattanooga VW in this thread are business owners vs how many are just middle management types in South Louisiana that have had absolutely no relations with union workers or reps in the last 30 years.
This place is the pinnacle of far right wing echo chamber in residence.
The hate for black people, gays, lesbians, any minorities, etc. is truly astounding.
But I bet your bottom dollar they all go to church on Sunday, sing Kumbaya and listen to their congregation leader talk about how they should love their fellow man.
And then proceed to add “unless they’re different from me and my fat wife, in any way,” to the message in their heads.

I guess one day we will have only Toyota and Honda remaining.
These people are fools.

Corporations have obviously proven their benevolence and concern for the well-being of workers over time.

You keep repeating this...
But when the UAW was defeated in 2019 at that VW plant the union clown said the following...

VW prefers having a CBA with its employees...

“The company ran a brutal campaign of fear and misinformation,” Romero said in a statement, adding that the automaker tried to make workers afraid of losing the plant and suffer other repercussions.

If the South starts voting unions into Southern auto plants (primarily the foreign owned ones), it will likely end the construction of auto plants in the South.
White people learned this lesson 40 years ago with the textile mills packing up and moving to Mexico. Blacks are on deck with this auto industry. Going to be a hard arse lesson.

VW has 122 plants in 32 countries including China, Mexico and Ghana. 121 of those plants have a collective bargaining agreement with VW because that is VW's preferred business model. The outlier is their Tennessee assembly plant where local politicians have adamantly opposed a collective bargaining agreement despite VW and VW employees expressing their desire to have said agreement.
European unions are not the UAW and it’s not the American labor model. The UAW is STILL under probation from the federal government for stealing members’ money. Why would anyone want to trust them with their paycheck?

This. A German union is more akin to a craft guild, with high standards for work quality, educational requirements (starts in their equivalent of middle school), etc. Nothing at all like the lazy, combative perpetual victimhood UAW.
