Wrestling.
He will learn discipline, to resist and overcome pain and adversity, self sacrifice, triumph and humility. He will get strong and lean, and learn how to protect himself without being a bully. Most importantly he will learn how to act in the moment, when he is on the mat and everyone is watching.
Louisiana is not a wrestling powerhouse. So basically any kid who starts early and sticks with it has a chance of standing on a podium.

I may be old school but get them doing things a man should do.
Put some country in them. Learn to work on your own stuff and repair things, hunt, fish, understand nature and how to coincide with it, grow a garden.
Life(schooling) is set up to teach you how to be successful at a job, it's not set up to teach you how to be successful as a person, father, leader of a household, and a man.

Get them each a copy of The Meditations and The Old Man and the Sea.
Lead.

This is pretty solid. I’d also add treat every person with respect, no matter who it is, janitor, cleaner, school principal, your boss, the CEO, etc.

We sent our sons to private, Christian schools we trusted to help us instill the proper values. Both are in college now and are perfectly normal. No drama, just working hard on their careers.
Invest in your son
Instill strong moral values
Have expectations and hold him accountable
Don't tell him he's doing great when his performance is average
When you do tell him he's doing great, it'll mean something to him
Tell him you love him at least once per day
Show him you love him by sacrificing for him. He'll notice.
No screens whatsoever
Books, books, and more books
The five B's produce great boys:
Bible
Books
Bats
Balls
and Boobs
We sent our son's to a Classical Christian school. Our 25 y/o is a commercial pilot and our 23 y/o just finished a Master's in fiance in six months. Both are rock solid young men.

He will follow the lead. Raise him to be a man and take care of the sphere of loved ones around him.

Get them into a contact sport: Football, wrestling, Jiujitsu, etc….
When they get in sixth grade join a gym and start lifting weights with them.
There is a confidence that comes from knowing you can whip 90% of people your age.

Make them better men than you are. If every generation does this, your family name will surpass the others very quickly.
Bring them to church, make them wake up early, teach them to work outside, treat ladies right.

What does big or little city have to do with it. Probably get in more trouble in small town
No you don’t… you want them to be ADHD social media addicts with no balls?
focus on education, education and education first….family, sports, teamwork, church, human socialization without electronics
spend time with them, tell them you love them. And are proud of them every day Play ball with them, teach them things with tools, cooking, etc. Play board games. Go on as many trips as you can with them. Hunting/fishing/camping/hiking. Expose them to as much different things as you can
Be their best friend but be their dad too. Fair but stern with rules. Teach them to not be afraid, don’t fear mistakes, but learn from them. Setbacks are opportunities to learn and become better. I’m not a big punisher… repitition of values and talking with them seem to work better for me
Do not give them a phone… I’m waiting til high school or driving, not sure yet. Do not give them their own social media account. Do not let them play with your phone. Block YouTube except for YouTube kids.
Don’t drink alcohol in front of them.
Teach them freaking manners… please, thank you, yes maam/sir. Hold doors for people. skin color is just a color and that the inside of people is what matters. i teach them to stand up for their friends and don’t take shite from punks, this does not mean fighting but be sure to stand up for yourself and your values. If that means telling the teacher then do it, shitty kids need to be called out for their behavior to change.
That’s all I got for now, just some rambling thoughts. I’m trying not to raise spoiled bratty kids like a lot the private school loser kids. My kids have character, are well respected, and not judgmental. They are empathetic, kind, respectful.

I have a son in the 7th gr, probably the youngest in his grade. I tried to hold him back in kindergarten but lost that fight with the wife. But he is very immature and I’m about to send him to Stanislaus if I could.
Sometimes I wonder if he knows right from wrong. He does shite that I know he knows better. He got his first phone at Christmas. He’s probably had it in his possession for a total of 7 days since then.
Most recently we let him take it to school due to an after school activity. The mother of one of his best friends called us to say he was taking pics of her son over the top of the bathroom stall and that he was going to send the pics to classmates. We had this very discussion with him prior to even giving him the damn phone but he must be too stupid to realize the repercussions. He never took the pics but said he was prankng his buddy. Needless to say, he’s not getting the phone back anytime soon and if I have it my way, he’ll repeat 7th grade because he’s too damn immature to move up. I’m at a loss at how to proceed. I’ve whipped his arse enough this yr and currently work out with him at 5:30 every morning to get some of his energy out. It’s been a struggle to say the least.

The school system is hard on boys. They cut out all the recess and then wonder why the boys are climbing the walls. There are fewer and fewer male teachers who would better understand how to deal with high strung boys. Rather than giving them textbooks, they give them 16 different apps to keep up. Guess who is less likely on average to have the organizational skills to handle that? There is a reason that girls are absolutely whipping boys asses in school, and it’s not because they are more intelligent.

Give them independence at a young age. My 9 year old has been biking to and from school since he was seven. He is free to go do what he wants after school just be home around 5:00. He has been riding his bike to the gas station to go buy candy since he was 8. He is an extremely capable kid.

1. Do not shelter them
2. Let them learn life lessons the hard way (be supportive, but don't intervene)
3. Get that fricking tablet/cellular device out of their face
4. Commit to being a full-time dad

How do you accomplish this today? Like it or not their friends will introduce them to a lot of things we are uncomfortable with, how do we as fathers make sure they keep their senses about?
Subject them to different experiences and perspectives, allow them to struggle, do not allow them to experience completely destructive sexual ideas/experiences (porn, or degenerate Hollywood trash).
Give them space to evolve and give them opportunities to explore their talents and develop them into something useful to make their way in the world.
Keep them away from pop-culture, make sure they have a good group of friends that are equally pop-culture adverse with parents who understand th÷ risks of pop-culture obsessions.
Community is such a huge factor in child raising and it's much harder to find. Even if you're good parents and bad community cannundo any good things you can instill in your kids. You see it all the time in the ghettos.
