Offseason / Moves you'd make Thread

Here is our financial outlook:
Here are the corresponding financial tables for 24-25:
Lets start with the folks moving into the offseason with no contract:
Jonas Valanciunas (+15.4M)
Cody Zeller (+3.1M)
Naji Marshall (+1.9M)
Now lets look at potential 24-25 Trade Deadline expiring deals:
Jose Alvarado (1.9M) // Assuming Team picks up option
JRE (2.1M) // Assuming Team picks up option
Brandon Ingram (36M)
Larry Nance Jr (11.2M)
Guys who could get an extension:
Trey Murphy (5.1M) available for Rookie extension ~30-35M
Brandon Ingram (36M) available for Veteran Max (non Supermax) 40-42M
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Building around Zion needs:
PG
Rim Running Big / Stretch Big
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts:
Assuming were truly stuck with Willie Green its time to eject his crutches:
1) Trade BI during the summer as this is the last opportunity to get anything of value back.
2) Eject Larry Nance this summer as well or trade deadline for a missing piece.
3) Allow Naji to walk.
4) Not a Pels Talk Favorite Here: I would not pick up Jose's Team Option. There is a certified logjam at the guard/wing position currently. Unless you are completely ready to give up on Hawk or Dyson, they need playing time that Jose currently takes up. Assuming you dont trade CJ and add another PG, you have:
PG
CJ
Dyson
Jose
Hawk
That means 1 guard isnt playing and the 4th in line maybe gets garbage time minutes. At some point you have to develop or eject your draft picks.
5) Do not pick up JRE's option and give that money to sign Karlo to a 2 year deal with a team option. (Assuming he shows promise at Summer League)
6) Matt Ryan was signed to a real NBA deal so job is done there (Fanspo seems to not have updated yet)
7) JV is walking no matter what.
8) Id explore feelers for CJ but its not a priority.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting Core:
Center
Zion
Trey
Herb
New PG or CJ
Bench
Back Up Center
CJ
Dyson
Hawk
Matt
Trades:
BI has to go out for either a Center or PG.
Larry has to either be traded for expirings or the same as BI.
If BI goes for a PG we do have cap space to sign a "OK" center again next year, but we definitely should be using a draft pick on a gamba center.
I think Dyson at the 4 minutes should be explored next year just to help with the log jam in the back court.

Trade BI for a true PG or a rim running center. Let Cody and Naji go.

Fire Willie. Trade BI. FTW

This is dumb. At his salary and production, you pick up the option 100 times out of 100.
There is no upside whatsoever to not picking it up.

Exactly. You hope that one of your draft picks outlplays him at some point, and you happily pay the peanuts you owe him until then.

Its just dumb.
If his option was 15 million, alright.
Its 1.9 million. I mean come on, what are we talking about here

I said it in another thread but im trading BI, Nance and whatever picks are necessary for Dejounte and Okongwu. Move CJ to 6th man and see if you can move him near the deadline.

Who's your backup center in this scenario?

How does Dejounte fit next to Herb? Dude is not a jump shooter to say the least, that seems like a pretty odd fit. Less spacing

Its not about the money, its about the minutes.

Not something to worry about at 1.9 million. You get the option and worry about it later, you can at least throw him or someone else into a trade if it doesn't work out.
There's no universe whatsoever where you do not pick up the option. The downside of a "logjam" does not outweigh the benefit, even remotely.

There is if you continue to get zero Hawk minutes moving into next year.
I value Hawks ceiling more than Jose's floor, and im not a prisoner of the moment. Its not a knock on Jose, but hes on the same path that Naji is taking here shortly.

That's just not how this works. Hawk is under contract for several more years and hasn't really shown enough to worry about that.
You keep the player and asset for one more year. If Hawk starts showing out then you worry about it then

This is exactly how it should work wym?
You develop your lottery talent who has won you a few games and was in 3rd place up to December for Rookie PPG

How can Hawk show out if you have Jose eating his minutes?

You only have so many minutes and if Willie is here he will and has shown to play Jose over Hawk no matter what
Where am I wrong?

Figure a way to add Tyus Jones and Claxton to our roster. Both are free agents and won’t cost us an arm/leg

I love Claxton as the back up big. Not a starter though. However, the problem is Claxton believes he is a starter.

He's a better jump shooter than BI. You'd be replacing CJ's 3s in the starting lineup with Trey's and increasing BI's 3's by having Dejounte. You'd still have CJ off the bench bombing 8 3's a game

Dumping a productive guy on a 1.9 million dollar contract because another guy who has shown you nothing might develop or might not.
You always, always, always keep productive guys that are making less than 2 million dollars. Who gives a frick about Hawk. If he is good enough, he will play.
You are over thinking this, big time.
Not a single team in the entire league would do what you are saying to do .
