Squeaker Mike Johnson promised us he wouldn’t bring Ukraine aid to the floor.
Before he was Squeaker of the House, he voted against every Ukraine aid bill except the first one.
Why, suddenly, is he bringing Ukraine aid as a standalone bill to the floor of the House?
Who is pulling Squeaker Mike’s strings?

Political reality in an election year.
Its very simple, really.

A desire not to lose 15 purple seats in November.

The reality of D.C. is different from the view we have. Political promises are a dime a dozen..

If he loses and/or November is a Republican massacre down-ballot, there's a decent chance that Trump and his entire family, for that matter, get purged from the party. He'd be a 2-time General Election loser and his DIL, who is basically running the RNC, will have overseen a blue wave.
You'd have to be stupid to still embrace him if that happens.

Our government from top to bottom just sucks. Our presidential candidate choices suck. Our alphabet organizations suck.
It all sucks

The truest thing I've ever read on this board. It's fricking terrible and somehow most of the other 1st world countries seem to be worse.

and a majority of Americans just keep voting for the same 2 parties and expect something to change.

No one can fix it. It will need to be destroyed from within. Seems to be happening.

How about Mike "Sneaker" Johnson pledging no Ukraine Bill before Border Bill is passed !
Somebody has got some big time dirt on him and he needs to come clean and keep his pledges.
If not he needs to be removed.

Maybe he just realizes the importance for all this now, and he probably understands better as to how critical these foreign conflicts are.

Gallup would disagree.
Cutting off support will not help Republicans in purple districts. It may help Republicans in South Dakota and Alabama win by 35% instead of 31% though.
quote:
Fifty-five percent of Americans think the U.S. should continue to support Ukraine in reclaiming its territory, even if that requires prolonged involvement, rather than ending the conflict as quickly as possible, even if that means ceding territory to Russia (43%). These findings are unchanged from the previous readings in October. However, the percentage of Americans who now favor continuing the fight to win back Ukraine’s territory is lower than the 62% to 66% who preferred that approach between August 2022 and June 2023.

Or we could just purge both parties altogether.
