Every other year or so, people get this idea that we can be exactly like Europe and use high speed rail to reach other cities rather than driving a car. What does the O-T think of high speed rail being implemented stateside?
I’m sorry you’re illiterate. Maybe you should be advocating for better adult education than high speed rail. It’s ok. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

In his defense the picture sets it up against air travel and other posters have made that comparison. I compared it to travel by car.

We would all be dead after 500 Billion was spent to build 5 miles of rail.

California is trying to find an extra $100B to complete theirs even after it had been whittled down to 171 miles of track.

Here’s an example. I’ve traveled from Houma to Hammond a bunch recently. That about 1.5-2 hours. A little shorter than Paris to London by train. But I’d much rather get in my vehicle and drive there when I’m ready, arrive when I want, stop where I want, etc.
I think you are off a little on you distance and time

The ones they will have in the ne cant even go that fast because of turns, tunnels and old bridges. So they will have high spd trains that cant average the high speed.
Rode the Acela from NY to Wilmington in the summer. It can do over 90 mph on some stretches of track, but that day it in slow mode because the tracks were hot and bending themselves.

No airport hassle" lulz Does this twat think the train is going to swing by his moms basement and pick him up?
Train travel is 1/100th the hassle as going to an airport

They’re going from Chicago to NY in 2.5 hours. You’re not stopping in podunk Ohio for a pit stop.
That 2.5 hr claim would assume the train is going an average of 285 mph the entire trip. Laughable. Then add on transit time to get to the train station from either end, time through security, boarding, etc, and this just shows how dumb the whole thing is.

Pathetic. Government = incompetence and waste.

This is absurd. The vast majority of airports in this country are a breeze to get through. My record down here is getting in an uber and being at my gate waiting to board in 27 minutes, and I live 12 miles from the airport. It is physically impossible for me to board any form of transportation faster.
The Simpsons nailed another one with their monorail episode years ago.

Thinking your experience is normal or average is peak OT

I live 30 minutes from the airport, if I have TSA pre-check I can be at my gate within 45 minutes of leaving my house

quote:I don’t believe high speed rail will work in most of the US because of density issues, but this post betrays a fair amount of ignorance on the subject in a single point: that it’s normal for you that a major mode of transportation is 12 miles away from you. Pick any major European or NE US city with both an airport and a train station. Find both of their locations on Google maps. Once you do, one of the major advantages of rail travel will quickly become obvious.

Do you mean, pick a city that existed well before the advent of the automobile?

We recently watched a show about the Shinkansen (Japanese Bullet Train). The amount of work the Japanese do to make sure that the train runs on time and is safe to ride is incredible. I seriously doubt the current American low wage worker could or would pull it off.
Japanese (homogeneous) culture takes pride in the betterment of society.
Our modern US “culture” derives pleasure in not taking pride for or in anything.
So no, we generally cannot have nice things like high speed rail or even public bathrooms that require positive group effort and personal responsibility now here.
