The Ol’ Beachcomber?
My uncle took him out to Lost Lake to film an episode once. They made him drink the beer that sponsored the show (Schlitz, maybe ?) and when taking a sip the label had to be prominently displayed. Being a diehard Budweiser man, he said it was awful. We had all gathered to watch and had a lot of fun teasing him about it.

I remember his outdoors column in the morning advocate when I was growing up. I always looked forward to seeing where the bream were biting.

There have been several threads here about the Ol' Beachcomber. I sure remember his columns and he also had a Friday night show on TV for a while. It was a short show, maybe 15-20 minutes coming on after the 10 PM news, iirc.
I miss Scearce and I also miss those great old B.R. sporting goods stores like Steinberg's and Fred Parnell's.

We never went to Steinbergs but I spent a lot of time dreaming in Fred Parnells . Up that staircase was where all the good stuff was . I miss when BR was such a good place to grow up.

My paw paw let me stay up late on Friday nights to watch with him. Also Johnny Carson's intro.

he used to live off of north blvd, a few doors down from where my dad grew up. when dad and his buddies needed beer they used to sneak over to bob’s house and swipe a 6 pack. dad said he had so much beer stashed in the garage that he wouldn’t miss a 6 pack.

Seems like he was always "Reporting from Camp Bayou Corne".

Bob Scearce was my Daddy’s friend. Back in the 1960’s. My Dad was a huge bass fisherman and was invited on Mr. Scearce’s show sometimes as his guest. My Dad caught a huge bass (which I have of course) and somehow Mr. Scearce found out about it. Well, Daddy caught it in a “private pond” and swore never to tell anyone where. I remember Mr. Scearce pushing Daddy. But he never told. Dad died in 1966 (Jack Hastings), and for years Mr. Scearce would sign off saying......I still don’t know where Jack Hastings caught that huge bass! Great memories. Thank you Mr. Scearce for the memories.

He was a good guy, but love the beer, not that there's anything wrong with it!
Years back, they had boat races at False River, he came by filming the crowd. In one of the cars, we had a couple ice chests with beer and cold drinks. We told him get whatever you want.

I loved his show. Bob caught fish from an old bateau that he carried around in an old Ford station wagon. This was before you needed at $70K boat and more electronics than most modern fighter planes to catch fish. BS was a legend around Old and False Rivers. Jerry Breaux was another BR outdoor writer/TV personality.

Jerry Breaux!
He was great too. He also did the sports segment of the 10:00 news fairly often, as a substitute for Scearce.
I remember watching the Ol' Beachcomber teeing off at #16 at Webb Park as I slowly passed by one day on College Dr. He hooked a low liner into Ward's Creek.
