Small ball field and if wind is blowing out we better have pitchers with excellent breaking balls breaking down.

900 ft vs 50 ft is not going to make a difference.

They need to worry about not striking out and just putting the ball in play somewhere waaayy more than they have to worry about elevation this weekend.

lol no…I live in Knoxville and it’s a couple factors…the stadium is tiny af and the direction the stadium faces always catches the wind blowing out…I’ve seen some dinky arse pop ups fly out because of the wind.

wind is blowing from right to left field at a hell of a good clip right now and should be tomorrow

quote:From what I remember, the actual issue with Coors Field was that pitches wouldn't move, and big league batters would tee off on flat pitches. The numbers were insane originally, and then they started putting the balls in a humidor and things settled out a bit. I remember reading an article where pitchers said they'd throw offspeed stuff and would watch how the balls just sailed in like batting practice.
But there is a reason pitchers HATE playing in Colorado Rockies stadium.
Tennessee isn't elevated enough to cause that.

Correct. The thinner air means the spinning ball can’t manipulate the air currents around itself well enough to break as sharply as it would nearer to sea level
Balls do fly farther off the bat at Coors (about 5-10%) but Coors also has the most spacious outfield in MLB. For this reason it is surprisingly not the most homer-friendly park in the majors but it is absolutely the most hitter-friendly park (more space for balls in play to land)

Would assume it helps some, but prob not much.
Exactly. Every foot of elevation helps.

I would expect it to help our team especially the hitters like Neal, Travinski, White, and Jones who fly out to the track when they just miss the ball. Those will be HRs that get over the fence. And obviously when they absolutely crush a ball its going to be a no doubter regardless of if its dead center or to either foul poul.

It definitely helps. The dimensions are tiny. If the wind is kicking up it might as well be a softball field.

Just wait until MLB expands to Mexico City
I had no idea Mexico City was at such high altitude.
I enjoy learning trivial stuff like that.

If you were in Denver or Vail, it would help.
