HVL’s trainer essentially says HVL was lied to by LSU

I’m curious if this trainer is speaking out of turn …or had HVL’s permission
Seems more like this trainer is defending his training program considering the poor season HVL had.
-He says they trained for a completely different role than how she was utilized this season
-He says he won’t say anything about the coaching staff, but once the season started you could tell right away there was very little that lined up with the promises that were made or insinuated how she would be used.
-He says “regardless, Hailey is of such a strong mind, she was able to adapt to how she could best fit and help her team.”
-He says they focused on PG skills “getting penetration in the paint, probe defense, control pace, outside pressure, use her change of speeds to get to passing areas on the floor, get to the paint, and not only looking for her shot but to facilitate.”
He says the shots she could get at LSU were very very different from the shots she could get at Louisville. “And the Louisville HVL is the one that is best utilized as option 1A or 1B.” Says she is very lethal in her turnarounds, midrange and an amazing 3 pt shot and they focused on extending that range and more off-the-bounce 3s.
-He says those shots were not on LSU’s game plan and she wasn’t able to showcase the areas they worked on in the off-season.
-He says “we had a clear mindset going into this season that LSU was going to be a one & done and then entering the wnba draft. But because of the way things turned out…we are now in the transfer portal stage.”
-He says he will not spill the beans on where she is going to, but “just know it is going to be a very good fit for her.”

I’m sorry I wish her the best but what a lame arse rant about how she sucked arse at point guard for us. She had countless wide open looks where she bricked
Her dumbass play cost us a few wins and a one seed. Sorry some drills were different? Good Lord

ehhh, i don’t think so. if it was her being overwhelmed by the stage issue, we would’ve seen that against her competition in Louisville. We didn’t.
it wasn’t a fit schematically. end of story. i wish her well.

Sounds like nothing but excuses for her and her trainers shortcomings. Everyone likes to blame others for their failures.

Blah blah blah. play basketball

There were several games where she just didn’t execute well and lost focus. She missed opportunities. The coaches would have loved to have been able to depend on her in those moments but couldn’t.

she was never gonna be the 1A or 1B option here due to our stacked starting lineup

This is actually a good point. He’s merely covering up his inability to properly develop HVL by launching one of the best coaches in the sport’s history under the bus

As I've said before, whenever someone starts a sentence and then the second phrase contains a "but" , you know the first part of the sentence is a lie.
I thought she did facilitate pretty well actually but penetration in the paint...I missed that part. She wasn't fast enough to get around the defender to do that.
Her 3 point % was better at LSU than at Louisville. The problem was she couldn't hit the mid range shot and got very, very few layups due to her lack of quickness. And as I've said before, I've seen her try to shoot off the dribble and she is pretty bad at it. She is a catch and shoot or have a screen and shoot player. Don't watch the WNBA but my guess is that is going to be a huge problem along with her lack of quickness.

“And she gave up 41 points to Caitlyn Clark, because I didn’t plan to have her guarding anyone good”

This trainer sounds full of it. It didn’t workout, move on. Tired of the constant bashing of LSU.

This was her problem all year. It wasn’t so much as fit or scheme, it’s understanding the position. Pace and decision making is priority one!
She played like she trained, not the way she practiced and that’s a problem. So now pops gets the trainer to insinuate this was LSU’s fault.

HVL spent over a decade training as a SG. But at 5'6", she can only get to the WNBA as a PG.
Yet this trainer is basically admitting they continued to train like she'd still be "Louisville HVL" (a SG) only with some added passing and more "off-the-bounce" 3's, instead of catch & shoot.
Maybe they should've practiced more accurate passing-to-the-post, ball-handling vs press, and how to not let 95% of the guards she faced easily drive past her to have career highs in points.

Like everyone has said, she wasn’t a great fit. Volume scorer on a team that had other producers.

His statements don’t even line up. He later says they did train for PG. Sorry not sorry the shots didn’t work for her. So many excuses.

Her biggest weakness was she couldn’t defend. That won’t change wherever she goes.

For one thing HVL probably should have been with the team sooner working on the new position, but instead she was playing that 3v3 tournament. Then she got hurt early on in the season which had to be another setback in her development of the new position on a new team.
These are more valid excuses her side could make. Not that they were “lied to.” I seriously am so tired of the constant bashing of LSU.
