California’s $20 fast food minimum wage balloons menu prices — with some chains increasing costs by nearly $2
You’ll be dropping a lot of dollar on that Whopper.
Menu prices at fast food chains across California have increased, as a new law went into effect requiring them to pay a $20-an-hour minimum wage to workers from Monday.
The Post checked menus at several restaurants in the Los Angeles area to see if the costs are already being passed on to consumers.
Burger King, where a Texas Double Whopper meal cost $15.09 on March 29 but surged to $16.89 on April 1, a whopping increase of $1.80 (nearly 12%) for the same meal.
The Big Fish meal also jumped from $7.49 on the menu before April 1 to $11.49 after — an increase of $4 (53%).

I was told this wouldn't happen.

These price increases are a complete coincidence.

Poor people will be affected the most.

Wait... these increased costs were supposed to be paid by the corporations not transferred to consumers.

No one could have possibly foreseen the price increase coming at the same time as a wage increase! How could anyone have predicted such a random sequence of evens?

Our resident rich guy with a masters in economics and a doctor wife will be here shortly to instruct us on how to handle this situation.

WTF. Who in their right mind would spend that much for anything from Burger King, or any fast food place. Jesus, California.

Pretty sure the illegals making food on street corners in L.A. are the only ones benefitting from this.

How long before California chains outsource fast food to China?
One whopper meal on order. Wait time only 3 weeks.

It's like some of these people don't understand simple economics.

Imagine the crying thread he'll create when Sweetgreen raises their prices again.

Maybe they can raise the minimum wage to $25 and solve the problem?

Of course it balloons prices!
Did you think the companies would take less profit?
We want a “living wage,” so we raise wages. This raises company expenses so they raise prices. Therefore your raise is not a raise. It’s just inflation

Who would have thought!?

Every fast food joint in Louisiana raised their prices and our minimum wage hasn’t moved.

Their fast food was already crazy expensive.
