How in the world did a team with that much talent earn a 5 seed in the tournament and get bounced in the second round? I mean...how??

Three players on the team that needed to be double teamed. It's frustrating but this might've been the year they lost to Georgia Tech?. Dennis Scott Bryan Oliver Kenny Anderson. Chris Jackson had the flu in that game. And had only 13 points?

that wasn't a good "team"...they didn't play well together on the court.

Just look to the head coach in that instance

The horrible things I’d do for lsu to be that stacked and even a 5 seed again

Shaq referenced that team not long ago on that NBA show he is on , saying they didn’t win a championship because they all played for themselves and not as a team.

Those were the glory days of LSU basketball, even with the disappointing tourney results.
I was a young lad and would chalk SEC logos into my driveway while I popped imaginary threes like LSU legend Mahmoud Abdul Rauf. I remember pilfering the SI issue with him on the cover from our gradeshool library the day it came out.

Hell, that team couldn't even win the SEC.
Dale was better with lesser talented players that he could motivate. He didn't do as well with elite talent.

LSU was killing them in the paint in the first half. GA Tech could not score anything inside and our bigs were just dunking at will.
GA Tech adjusted, started shooting and making a bunch of 3s and we traded 2s for 3s the rest of the game until we lost. We had bad perimeter defense on that team.
That's how I remember it anyway. CJ he announced he was going pro after the game and Roberts said he hoped to come back "if they'll let me" signaling he was in grade trouble. They ultimately "did not let him".

A more important question is how did this team with all this talent not win the championship?
Answer: Dale Brown

LSU also didn't matchup with Arkansas very well back then. Arkansas was a powerhouse, and Oliver Miller used to give it to Shaq down in the paint.

Easy. Shaquille was a true freshman and was not yet the player he would become 2 years later. Stanley was a redshirt freshman. This in an era where players stayed for at least 3 years.

Dale Brown couldn't coach himself out of a wet dream!
