Date and approximate time of incident: 3/23/24 @ 1701Z (1:01 pm local)
Not a lot of news coverage of this situation, but VAS Aviation has the ATC Audio:
Incident occurs at 2:23 timestamp.

From the description:
Prior reported METAR:

Seems like wind shear and a lack of situational awareness was to blame here.
The aircraft safely diverted to BWI

Air traffic controller yelled the pilots to go around and climb immediately.

I would still jump on a plane first thing tomorrow morning if I knew it was destined for a cool place.

To be fair, it seems like its been a while since we have had this many issues with aircraft.
Its clear since covid people just dont want to work for a living so companies are hiring people with less of a skillset.
You cannot skimp in aviation.

Am I the only one who finds the woman ATC's demeanor on this weird?
She talks on the radio like she's hanging out with friends in a social setting more than ATC I've heard before.

She sounded (understandably) rattled after seeing a 737 coming at the tower. I doubt the ability to keep industry standard radio jargon is expected in that instance.

I have some major flights coming up (one approx 15 hrs) and am rather anxious about it. I also flew a couple of weeks ago, and booked through the airline in order to see exactly what plane type I would be on.
Yeah, yeah, it’s "safe"….but it’s still a roll of the dice. One in a zillion only feels good unless you are the one.

Listen to the tape, sounds like rotten weather that day. Wind shears. Everybody is doing go-arounds. Sounds like they got hit by a nasty gust.
NOtice they diverted. To Pittsburgh. Nowhere near NYC. Crud...

Just wait, they will be filling hospitals and doctor offices. Soon. The tests to be a doctor are racist

There has not been a major commercial jet crash since just after 9/11, back in 2001.

Do you mean on US soil? Because Air France 447 was a big one.
