Doing a GoT rewatch for the first time…

I had forgotten just how vile Joffrey was….damn what an evil little monster. Joffrey and the evil queen in See might be two of my most hated TV characters of all time. But overall, GoT is as great as I remembered it to be. Just not enough justice for my taste, but it is what it is….those first few seasons were phenomenal. Damn shame that it had to start heading downhill around season 5, and by the end, (as has been discussed here many times), it was utterly horrific.

SE5 and SE6 start that downturn - first 4 seasons are terrific, best ever television. I think I hold Dexter S4 in that light as well with Lithgow Trinity.
But I will say this - if you're going to stop somewhere, don't stop prior to "The Door". Hodor deserved that exit and is both sad and brilliant.
For anyone that doesn't know, Fat Lazy GRR revealed to Dumb and even Dumber the Hodor story and they couldn't believe it. Like, what?!? Lol.

Season 2, Episode 3
30 minutes 25 seconds
Should be right up your alley

It fell off after they blew the up the Sept in the last episode of Season 6

Season 5 is pretty bumpy as well. First signs of trouble in Dorne. Season 6 I remember most hating until they pulled a pretty awesome final two episodes out of their arse, which were cool but also set up the major issues with the remaining episodes and ending
cleanest way to break it would be to just stop at the S4 finale. Too much fat to cut around after that

But easily, there is a huge overall drop-off from 1-4 and 5-6 IMO. The rest just needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

I just finished a full rewatch. I agree with everyone else, but season 6 is worth it for Battle of the Bastards and Winds of Winter.
Season 8 is bad. Honestly it was worse than I remember

They should have just stuck with it and done 9-10 full ten episode seasons. It wasn’t the ending itself, it was the rushed bullshite after years of calculated build up.
Their biggest mistake was making that last season split into like 6 hour long episodes instead of doing it right and setting up the ending in a normal season.
I have no idea why HBO seems to have adopted the “let’s make seasons with less episodes and take 18 months in between” model, but it sucks and GoT isn’t the only show that it killed.

To be fair that one wasn’t on HBO, they were more than willing to go 10 seasons but D&D were like frick that 13 more episodes total

True. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that the show D&D gave up on GoT to create never got a pilot.
frick those guys.
I still hate HBO for allowing the rushed abortion that was seasons 7-8. It taints the brand honestly.

Season 1-4 were 10/10
Season 5 was 8/10 ...mostly just the sand skanks dragging it down
Season 6 was 6/10 ...saved by The Door and Winds of Winter. I feel like the only person who hated Battle of the Bastards because of the plot armor it gave Jon with all the dumbass decisions he made
Season 7 is 5/10 every episode looked good but damn were the characters so dumb
Season 8 is 3/10 still looks good and it had a few good moments but damn if everything wasn't incredibly stupid

Dany randomly burning down KL AFTER SHE WON THE WAR, was one of the biggest what the frick moments I have ever seen and not in a good way in quite literally one of the worst ways possible. Absolute 180 turn from her character just like two episodes ago

Is Season 4 still one of the all time greatest seasons of television?
Posted on 3/24/24 at 10:13 pm to themetalreb
It never ceases to amaze me how many shows tail off after 4 or 5 seasons. That seems to be the sweet spot

Yeah I'm in the middle of a rewatch. I'm in the middle of season 3. Dany spends all of season 2 and 3 freeing the slaves and being a "good" Targaryn. To then lose her mind in the final season.
I'm enjoying the secondary characters and their story arcs this rewatch. Sam, Brien/Jamie, Bran, Arya/Hound. (Arya's arch jumps the shark when she goes to Bravos).

Question: at the end of season 2, Joffrey decides to wed the Tyrell girl….why didn’t the Lannister’s hold against her the fact that she had previously been with the “traitor” Renly Baratheon….that was never even mentioned. Why?

They needed the Tyrell money and support for the Battle of the Blackwater. They didn't really have a choice.

I've watched the series 2x and decided to read all the books. Even though I've seen the series, it's still hard to even read how horrible he was.
