These takes are interesting. I was in my early 40s in 2015 when I learned about TD from two LSU KA frat boys at work.

So what specifically about 2012 was so much better? What happened then?

There was a ton of irl drama around then. I don’t even know if that’s still a thing now, but it definitely blew up some shite here.

Over time the norms here have evolved, some good, some not. You could probably point to a few behaviors that tend to dissuade new or more frequent posting. And some of that is good and not so good.

The average poster gets up to pee at night at least 3 times.

Not sure but I’m 50 and feel kind of young here

it's always felt to me like people in their late 40s/early 50s either go full miserable old geezer or kind of hang on and stay "cool" for lack of a better word. we have a lot more of the former here these days.

A big component of that was the percentage of posters who were in their 20’s, attended LSU/lived in BR, had no kids, and interacted irl at bars was significantly higher. When you actually are drinking with these people, shenanigans become inevitable.

A grandmother of 3 in Kentucky isn’t getting into drunken shenanigans at Bogies with a 50 year-old divorced engineer at the Redstone Arsenal, a 60 year-old LP plant baw, or a 40 year old married woman with 2 kids in Dallas.

Bogies check ins were always fun. OT IRL GTG’s were always fun. Now, TD feels like just a bunch of angry boomers and gen xers ranting on Facebook about their teenage kids’ tiktok dances.

everyone of the 20 somethings that posted in those threads is now married with 2 kids and a dog in the burbs. And no longer posts.

and now we're stuck with people posting about their antique collections and being scared to fly commercial airliners

My take on this: The early 2000s members were all fairly young and there were few "older" posters. The older generation didn't grow up with the internet and weren't as drawn to message boards. Now, 20+ years later, the initial "fairly young" members are now middle aged. So the average age is going to keep advancing until an equilibrium is reached between adding young people and the older ones dying.

So yeah, the discussions are a lot different than they were 20 years ago. Back then we were just giggling telling people about this crazy board called "Tigerdroppings". The fact that we are discussing how the OT has changed proves that it now has people of all ages.

I will say the "back in the day" TD was more fun. I mean people got locked in their rooms, people were having relationship breakups over threads, etc.

The OT is old, most joined in their 20's and are now in their 40's or 50's and there has certainly been a shift of less younger posters.

I would have never thought to join a message board in college. Was too busy being a heathen. Never have been a social media / message board person until I started getting really into lsu baseball. Found this site - love it - wish I knew about it sooner.

So yes, the population is aging out faster than younger users and one day, sadly, TD/OT will disappear

I can only hope our post counts are archived somewhere. I want my descendants to have a record of my accomplishments.
