Those guys don’t drink beer while playing it.
Not anymore, especially on stage. Back when I first got into darts Eric Bristow was the reigning World Champion and won that title 5 times over his career.
There's plenty of videos of him playing in the early days on u-tube and there was almost always a pint on the tables for the players and many of them had lit cigarettes between their fingers even at the oche (throwing line) when playing on TV.
Now, there's bottled water on stage, no smoking allowed but if they have events with breaks in play during long format events, then what they do backstage is on them....
Andy Fordham, not long dead, was a huge man in excess of 400 lbs. and was known to down a dozen or more pints of beer before heading to the stage for his matches.

It actually is a skill so that classifies as a sport.
Just like shooting pool and bowling.

If ESPN is the qualifying authority, then I am going with spelling.

You HAVE to start at an early age to get great at almost any sport. Golf is the hardest by far…..
Based on the number of people who reach at least a collegiate level of competency later in life, I'd say the "easiest" path is probably to be huge and go football/basketball.
It's the only sport I'm aware of where you regularly have lineman, 5s, etc. who come from other countries with only a couple of significant years of experience and get opportunities at a pretty high level.
That's not to diminish skill/athleticism in those positions, it just is what it is. If you have the right frame, you'll have a reasonable chance of getting a higher level opportunity. And given the pool you're competing with is so much smaller than almost every other position in any sport, you probably just don't have to have the same level of skill to become competent.

I once saw a friend hit a drive and it hit the tee markers and went backwards like 25 yards. It's still the shortest drive I've ever seen and I still laugh about it.

Yep. Has anyone actually watched top level ping pong or badmiton? Those dudes are insane. I'm pretty good at ping pong, tennis and golf. I'm NOWHERE near elite at any of them.

I'd probably agree with distance running.
This was my first thought as well, but it also requires OP to define what he means by excel. If it's just to be good/great at a sport, then distance running is probably the easiest. If it's to be one of the best in the world, or D-1 level; then it would probably need to be one of the skilled competitions that somehow get lumped into sports.

tennis? Talk about a hard sport. I was ranked in the top 250 in the world and won 6A state and I wasn't even close to being pro.

Would love to see you put together a long distance run with your superior mentality. What are you good for? 10 meters.

Bowling is a good answer for something that has sport like qualities (a ball, have to throw it, accuracy etc…). A year ago I had 2 hrs to kill and went to a bowling alley by myself. I played non stop for 2 hrs and by the end I bowled back to back games over 200.
I feel like if you dedicated your life to it you would be able to be great regardless of your athleticism.
Maybe I should get my kids into bowling

Tennis, hockey and soccer are probably the toughest most rigorist sports to compete in
